I have a pair of GC Conures. Cock nornal/cinnamon & Hen normal. The guy i hand rear for sourced some from another breeder and also took one of my cinnamon babies. I told him it was nest sex as a hen 100% & with the pairing of the parents he didn't have to worry about DNA'S, he didn't believe me and got a DNA done on her to make sure, just in case i was wrong. Some people.

I would have done that as well. I got a pair and guess what, two boys! But the guy told me it was a proven pair so I can understand doing it

AV sorry but that's pretty funny. Proven breeding pair? Both males. This guy thinks that hens are split to cinnamon. The more i explain to him cinnamon is sexed linked, the cocks can be split but the hens have to be visual cinnamon, or normal, hens can not be splits. He just doesn't get it. When i told him a DNA for her wasn't necessary he said but your breeding pair are both splits. No!!!!! the cock is split cinnamon, hen normal.

I've got a cinnamon hen and a normal male, does this mean any babies (fingers crossed) that are cinnamon will be females? They haven't had any yet.

Hi Laraine, Mine were 2 years old before i let them breed. With your pairing The chicks will be cocks normal/cin and hens normal so you will have to get a DNA to see what the chicks are. I have a normal/cin cock and normal hen. i can get normal/cin & normal cocks and cinnamon or normal hens. Hope you get some babies this season. They are the cuteist little birds and so much fun.

Sometimes it is best just to agree with people and let them make their own decisions and mistakes if need be. Far better that making fun of them behind their backs and looking like a smart alec.

It's not at all like that Bird Crazy. This chap and i have a really good relationship, we can almost say anything to each other without offending. I had already discussed the sex of this particular bird with him. I also told him he was a dill. I actually spoke to him today and asked if the DNA was male and his reply was at least i have a DNA to prove she is a hen. So we had a bit of a laugh about it.
I wouldn't say anything behind anyone's back if i couldn't say it face to face. And i do know him and his wife very well. We do chuck off at each other a lot. It's all good. ;D ;D ;D
Madaussie they are vicious little buggers, i had 2 pairs side by side, they even got stuck into each other through the wire. One male came off second best got skinned from mid chest down one leg. Took him to the Vet and had him all stitched up. He healed up so well you wouldn't even know but it did look nasty.

Irrespective of that (and I do understand as I have many relationships like that myself), this forum is open to guests to read and your first post - no matter how light heartedly intended - came across as a negative post. We all have fun in some of our posts, to ensure that any guests do not read what I did into your first post, I'd like to suggest you include your explanation of relationship. We do not wish to scare off any potential members with a false impression. I accept what you say, we just need to keep up the appearance of a friendly forum.
