Just a small sample of what i make up for my flock. My parrots get a variety of fresh fruits and veggies daily along with sprouted pigeon mix. Once a week each pair of eclectus get a hard boiled egg shell included, chicken leg bones cooked. As well as that they get gum nuts, a variety of raw nuts, and fresh native branches to chew. They also have pellets, small parrot seed. Three times a week a multi-vitamin is add to the water. I try to change what is fed to them so they don't get bored with their food. I don't have trouble introducing new foods as they a willing to try anything.

that looks good Robyn , i try to vary it too, i prefer mostly to give mine freshy diced fruit and vegies every day and every now and then will cook some food for them, like sweetpotato pumpkin and legumes etc with other vegies tossed in , mine go mad for chicken bones they seem to know when im doing a roast especially Archie he starts pacing his cage its so funny. I cant really get fresh branches where i am being in a new area all the trees are fairly new and i cant bring myself to rip branches off . Mine love pomegranites, passionfruits, lychees, cherries and guavas that has to be their all time favourite fruit plus berries .

Sarah its great when our birds will eat almost everything. I haven't tried any of the cooked foods for the aviary birds but the Pets will have a go at what ever is on my plate. I think your babies will forgive not having fresh branches on account of everything else you feed plus all their toy's. They have a very enriched environment.

oh and I give mine the cooked bean/legumes/lentil type mix that I make up, plus I add greens and fruit and veges and stuff to it. They also get fresh fruit and veges. Those birds inside get a taste of whatever we eat too and they learn when we eat that they might get some and they almost demand a taste. Takoda gets oh so excited when I have an iceblock or a piklet.....
Erik is just learning that when we eat he might get some and has just started to get excited when I sit down to eat. lol

That looks yummy! Any tips on what to feed a Sunny? He loves fruit but doesn't want to eat his veggies. Also do you have food in there all day or only during feeding times?

Oceanaussi, all my birds get that mix including the suns & green cheeks. I give it to them in the morning, by lunch the lot is all gone. I also mix in home brand frozen mixed veg, the conures go straight for the carrot, Yesterday i found a packet of frozen berries in the freezer. God knows how long they had been there, i thawed them out and was surprised the conures licked the plate clean. I wasn't sure if any of them would eat them. They have seed and pellets in their cage at all times. I also do up a soaked seed mix. Or if i have forgotten to soak i'll cover with water and microwave it for 10 minutes let it stand until the seeds are all plump, rinse it off, then give equal amount of the soaked, frozen mixed veg, bit extra frozen peas and corn. I use Golden Cob Pigeon mix with sunflower added. But bare in mind i am feeding 30 to 40 birds. All my babies are weaned on to these foods as well.

Now let me think, Laraine. Corn, celery, apple, pear, rockmelon, manderine, orange, grapes, frozen mixed veg, extra peas and corn. But it gets changed with the seasons. They also get passionfruit, pawpaw, mango.

My birds get a lot of paw paw and rockmelon, plus apples/pears and I get some frozen berries and give them too. They get carrot daily also and bok choy. I have cut down on the frozen veges due to them not being Australian grown (some times they are from China!!!) I have had to try to make sure I get mine from Australia and I now use a vege wash (sent from WA) and it seems to be helping Erik. I also give passion fruit when we have some (which should be now or soon ;D ) and mango when in season etc etc and broccoli etc etc oh and fresh beans again too. Oh and fresh corn on the cob too. All my birds get this but the ekkies get it twice a day.
Plus the bean mix I cook up too which I mix with the bok choy and carrots and frozen veges (when I use them). They get a bit of silver beet (less now than before). Basically whatever is in season or on special or what I can think of to buy. But paw paw, rockmelon and carrots are in my shopping trolley weekly.

I have been giving mine rockmelon lately as I have been taking some to work for lunch. I also give them apples, grapes, carrots, celery tops, spinach, corn on the cob once a week, mixed vegies and thistles. Lately I have seen oranges in parrot cages so might try in winter when mine ripen. Does anyone give oranges and do they eat them?

Yes Larain, I have given mine orange slice from time to time but not often.
Shaun, it is bought in WA only at the moment. I contacted the "maker" and they "gave" me a free sample bottle (750 ml). It is made of natural ingredients that naturally help remove wax's and poisons etc from our fruit and veges. I am going to contact them again and ask if I can have it sent to me if I buy a couple of bottles at a time. Otherwise I will contact some people on an ekkie forum I belong to and ask if they can buy it for me and send it to me until such time I can buy it in Qld.
Apparently it can be bought from Coles in WA and is Australian made in Freemantle apparently.
