Hi there I am a new owner of 2 alexandrine 3 month old boys and they are adorable. Just having trouble with them being rather nippy when I am trying to touch them (especially 1 anyway) Shiloh, the older one is really affectionate and allows me to touch him, but he wont come off my shoulder when I need to put him back in the cage. Pulie on the other hand, moves away when we try to touch him, or makes a funny noise and his eyes kinda beed in. Once he is on my shoulder however he is ok.
What am I to do? I dont wanna be scared of them or they will know. I have been tapping their beek and saying a firm 'NO' it is helping a little, but then it continues. thanks Ange

Alexandrines are not a touchy feely bird.....so if they are happy to sit on your shoulder then that is great. My pet loves to sit with me but does not appreciated being patted.
Welcome and looking forward to seeing pics.

Welcome, unfortunately you have picked one of the "no touchy" birds...but none the less, they are awesome birds. Even though my girl HATES to be patted I love that she is not one of those birds that ALWAYS wants to be scratched, she'll just chill out with me...my conure is the touchy feely bird.

Shiloh loves to be pat he also allows me to hold his foot kind of like a hand shake. but paulie on the other hand needs a bit more work. I purchased a training course from the United States that is guaranteed to work or money back. Its from www.birdtricks.com I will give it a go and see what happens. Thanks for your comments.

Hi and welcome. Give them time, Alex's although they don't like being cuddled do make a good pet bird. And they usually talk well. A few of my friends has them. And there is always the exception to the rule where some Alexandrines are feely touchy & in your face. Your on the right track with training them so good luck and keep us posted with their progress.

for Shilohandpaulie. I don't want to sound like, what used to called ,a sourpus. I am very suspicious of any promoter,in regard to birds, that advocates such claims as" guaranteed to work,or money back".Still,no doubt you will find some helpfull material there, and hope it helps you and your birds. from Robert and Precious

Hi Robert Well I will certainly use the "guaranteed to work or money back" to my advantage, cause if it doesnt, I will certainly ask for it back...LOL Well all I can do is try out the course and see what happens. thanks for your comment.

thanks Shaun. I am glad I found this site. Tonight was the firs time that Paulie ( the bird of the problem) let me hold him. My daughter had him and he was looking around for me. I couldnt believe it when I got close to him he stretched his beek out and climbed onto me. Now thats gotta be a good thing

Hi Ange, and welcome!
Congratulations on your new Alexandrine boys. What a delight they must be. It is great news to hear that Paulie reached for you with his little beak. It shows he has learned to associate you as someone he feels safe with. That is great. With Shiloh also happy to sit on your shoulder as well, you will soon have a nice matched set on your shoulders. hehe.
Enjoy yourself on the forum. Cheers, Shauna ;D
