Today in the morning i went out to check the birds like every other day and give them fresh fruit veg etc and i had my handreared pair of greencheeks in the garage and when i looked in the cage my little hollie was on the floor with screeching and the boy next to her attacking her, i scared him of and checked her and when i moved her half her face was bitten of the skin was hanging of and she was that weak i got my dad to put her out of her misery, i would of taken her to a vet to get put down but none was open near me and i didnt want to see her suffer any longer . i could have killed tako her partner or let him go that was how i felt, she was one of my best pet birds and my first greencheek, she always wanted to be a mother but he wasnt fertile, i can go on and on and on but i wont.. all i no i aint going to be getting anymore birds what are handreared as you get attached to them the most and than the bad happens. if anyone here wants him they can have him but advise not to put with other birds, he sits on a bit of an angle due to splayed legs but not that bad she is the one on the left, and just yesterday they were cuddling and kissing and this happens today

Damo I'm so sorry to hear about your little Hollie, it is heartbreaking to lose one of your favourite birds especially in that way. You wonder what makes them turn like that.

Damo I have seen around the traps you trying to get rid of this guy. If you want I can come and get him so he is gone and then work on getting him a new home.

Very sad for the loss Damo. I know it must have taken a tremendous effort on your part not to "strangle" him. I had a budgie hen once that scalped her mate.

Thanks everybody these things happen they can be a loving pair and than the next day they aint. i dont think he new what he had done as he was screeching and looking for her, he now has found a loving home. yeh i did feel like strangling him but it wouldnt help, its terrible when these things happen and to see them in such a way and to be suffering.

Oh no Damo, I just read about your loss of your precious Hollie and the trauma you have had in finding that awful situation.
I am so very sorry. What a horribly painful experience for you. I think it was very brave of you not to hurt the male considering how tense things were and you should congratulate yourself on finding him a new home rather than just putting him down, which many people would do under the circumstances. Poor bird has had an awful time too I imagine, but it has all worked out well for him at least.
We do get attached to our beloved pets and especially the particularly tame ones, that give us so much joy. Give yourself time to grieve mate, as it is very necessary to allow the grieving process to be complete so you can move on in time. We have all lost some special ones here, so you are in good company with those of us who understand your pain. Take it easy mate, ok?
Fly free over the Rainbow Bridge little Hollie.
Love, Shauna
