They are beautiful Robyn. I toyed with getting one as a pet a few years ago....but after a bit of research was sort of talked out of it. But gee they are beautiful hey.

I had two pair and pampered them for close to eight years in the aviary.. neither pair produced for me. I decided to bring them indoors to my bird room giving each his own cage just to socialize and make the feeding/cleaning easier on me. All four started to chirp, tear paper and show signs of wanting to nest which was fantastic or so I thought only they weren't interested in each other.. They either bonded to an amazon or the large M2's. I have one wild caught white cockie who makes his nest in the soil in the large flight and he has an eye for a DYH... Fourteen years later and I'm still waiting...LOL... not really, all the birds I have are kept as pets.
Yours are lovely.

No Laraine they are having a bit of a stash because i was in their cage with the camera. The male was hand reared not sure about the hen. She is scared of almost everything & reacts in that way. But they do spend most of their day cuddling.
Damo, i hardly know i have that pair, the Crimson Bellied Conures, Suns & Eckies would out rank them in the noise department. The only time i hear them is if someone is around & late afternoon. I will never sell that pair even if they don't breed. Plus the male talks a lot.

Do they live as long as the white cockies?

Not as long. Although i did read some where some one had one around 50 years. I have an old Galah Pancho that is 70 years old & still counting. Poor old fellow is blind. I don't know how much longer he has & you know what that bird has never been to a Vet in its whole life.

I have a wild caught white cockatoo that is also almost blind.
I had taken him to an an avian ophthalmologist in New Orleans to see if he could correct his vision (we take pet birds to the vet for yearly check-ups over here and then if the need arises have the breeders checked out also) anyho!!... I found out his poor eyesight was due to lack of light while being transported and no acclimation to daylight upon his arrival.
I wanted to tell you if the MM2 went to nest you could get almost 2,800 to 3,000 dollars over here.
I saw a member had a black cockatoo on eggs ... they'd get 10,000 at least ...less if it were a Palm as they are now starting to be a bit more readily available... those usually are about 7,800 to 8,000 US dollars.
