Im thinking about buying a second bird. At the moment i have a rainbow lorikeet that a friend gave me for free his about 5 years old. I am thinking about getting a sun conure but the thng that concerns me the most is the noise they make. Every website i read about sun conures it mentions the noise they make.
So do they really make that much noise? and what size cage is recomended for sunnies?

Hi there from me and my Sunny 'Stormy'. I got Stormy in January this year and he's a real character. But yes, they're noisy. Noisier than 2 dogs barking and howling that I go to the pub without them. I can't hear the dogs anymore at the end of my street. However Stormy I still hear 2 streets down. I also hear him inside my friends house 2 houses up. If he sits on my shoulder and does his conure scream it rings in my ears for a few minutes. I live in a semi-rural area and each day hundreds of Lorikeets, and all kind of toos travel over my yard. Stormy tries to be as loud as them (but luckily he doesn't quite succeed). In saying that, he's not noisy all the time. He makes a noise when he hears/sees all the wild birds or when he wants something - like food, coming out of the cage or when he tries to 'rescue' me from my dogs. Sun Conures are demanding and I do sometimes feel as 'staff' as they need training otherwise they can be a bit sooky when they don't get what they want. Stormy knows nearly the same commands as my dogs: come, stay, leave, poop, shake hands... I'm glad he's chosen me! Good luck with our decision and please do consider your neighbours!

Hi,
Normally 1 sun conure is OK as long as its disciplined from the very first day of purchase. We had 2 living in the house about 10 years ago they were fine until i put them outside in the aviary & got more of them. Having said that i have had the pleasure of boarding some lovely quiet little Sunnies. I also have a guy that brings his 2 for a wing clip & they are sweet.
Good luck with your decision.
Cheers,
Robyn.

Short answer YES, long answer YYEEEEEESSSSSS! lol but as Robyn has said, a single bird should be ok. I have them in aviaries next to other noisy conures and can get quite loud at times. Honestly, if it was me, Id have one inside. God help me if we handraise some this year, my wife gets attached to the young ones. She has said in the past about keeping a sun inside Shaun

They are so bright and colourful, if I get the opportunity I'll get a pair. My aviaries aren't near anyones bedroom, just the back fences.

Personally i think our Ekkie is more noisey than our Sunnie. The only time our sunnie is noisey is when we get home from work of if he wants to be let out of his cage etc.
Our Ekkie on the other hand likes to have screaming sessions for no reason. lol
Im not saying sunnies are the quietest birds but i wouldnt say they were overly loud.

Yes they are loud!! In our bird room they would be the bird you can hear from the other side of the store, second only to the cockatoo
