Am I right in saying that the green is mostly replaced with yellow Robyn? They are an excellent looking bird.

Yes your right Shaun, almost. I am working for a better looking bird. I am trying for an almost all yellow bird. Have more eggs at the moment so i might just jag a really good one.
Fingers crossed.

The pic above is of one of the best i have bred to date. that bird has had it 6 month moult and it almost has no green on the wings at all. So hopefully by the time the next moult it will look good. Also have one with a full yellow tail. Very interesting to work with because no chick looks the same. They all have a different degree of pied. Robyn.

Please explain..............are you trying to get a pure yellow Sunny? Pardon my ignorance. Not sure what is meant by pied. I thought pied was mixed colours.

I just wanted to know the difference as i didnt know.. And i though mango might ahve been pied but he definately isnt. lol He has a lot of green. The reason i thought this was because when i got him, his back wasnt covered in green feathers like most babies (unless they lied to me about his age..lol) I personally dont like the Pied ones.. the green and blues in sunnies are very beautiful. but as u can see he has lots of green and blue

Kebz, i thought that it was possible Mango had pied in him when you first got him. Because of the amount of yellow on his wings.
Laraine, i don't think pied is the correct word to use for these birds. The sunnies i have are from the WA Golden Sun Conure which are a stunning looking bird that is all yellow/orange with a normal colored tail & clear cream flights. There is no green at all on the bird. At the moment i am getting a small amount of lime green through the feathers & some of the flights have color in them. When i have a cage of normal suns & one of the pied all the pied would certainly sell first.

Well most sunnies when the are bubbies have nearly their whole back green, where as mango didnt. So thats where i might have thought he was pied. These are pics the first day i brang him home I believe he has more green feathers in his wings than he does in those pics.. I was told he was 3 months when i got him...

I would say the age is spot on when you got him. By the age of 3 he will look a lot brighter. I am reasonably sure with Mango you have what they call an east coast pied. Does he have any odd colored flight feathers.

Robyn, what kind of strange colours would you see in the flight feathers if he was a pied?

Emily, just checked out Mango's pic's & the color in his flights are an indication that he has pied in his background. Sometimes the flights look a bit dirty looking, same as in the pic. He also has a touch of yellow under his tail on the tips of the feathers. Sometimes they have white toe nails. He could very well loose a bit more green from his wings as he gets older. They always say a sunnie looks its best when its fully matured & its right. But a pied or golden sun conure is absolutely beautiful.
I hope i answered everything.
Cheers,
Robyn.

Hi Robyn, The yellow in the tip of his tail has only come through since he has molted.. a lady on another forum has a sunni who has nearly a whole yellow tail..
What colour are flight feathers on a normal sunnie? Do they have the white parts?

Emily this is a description of a normal Sun Conure: General plumage yellow, variably tinged with orange on forehead, sides of head, lower abdomen, rump & lower back; under tail-coverts tinged with yellow variably marked with green; secondary coverts green; outer webs of primary coverts blue; primaries secondaries green, former becoming blue towards the tips; upperside of tail olive tipped with blue; undersids of tail & flight feathers olive-grey.
Hope this helps,
Robyn.
