Hi everyone i'm getting a sun conure off a breeder in ballarat. He is advertising on petlink. His asking $300 plus $20 extra if i want it sexed. The baby will be hand reared from the age of 1 week old. He has a clutch of eggs due to hatch this week and another in 2 weeks. So my baby will be ready to pick up in november some time.
Is there any difference in personality in males and females? About quartine if i handle the sun conure then want to handle my other birds i will have to change my clothes. I've been lucky so far, i've never quartined any new birds that have come in. I should do this with the sun conure. Now my boyfriend doesn't want to drive the 5 hours there and back in on hit. So what were thinking of doing is driving the 5 hours there pick up bird drive some of the way home then spending a night in carvan or motel. How will the bird handle this? I know i should take a small cage, food,a cover to cover him with. I do have a bird transport box but if were going to spend somewhere overnight he will need a cage too right? i can't wait i hope time flys. How long should i keep him in quartine for? I have another question how difficult is it to harness train a sun conure or any bird? I need to buy a new aviator harness the one i got is the small size i read i need the x small.

Ok firstly congratulations on owning a sunny in the near future.
Travelling should not be a problem but I would try to keep him in a travel cage and cover it. When you get to where you are staying I would take him out and just let him "chill" with you. He should be used to humans, but he will not be used to you so just take it easy with him. I tend to baby my birds at first especially when they are babies.
My birds do travel ........ I even take baby birds to work with me and I have a 25 min drive both ways. We bought my pet alexandrine Takoda from Brisbane and it is a 7 hour drive each way. We had gone to Brisbane and arranged to pick him up on the way back. He was 4 weeks old and I finished raising him. I just made sure he was in a covered small cage and we stopped so I could feed him........in which I had to take him out and feed him, then I put him back and we continued on our trip.
With the birds that I raise from here we do the same but they are used to me as "mum" so it is not a problem.
does the Harness fit your other birds?? I thought Sunnies were slightly bigger than the GCC.

I would definitely change clothes before touching your own birds, you can't be too careful. I quarantine all my new birds for 4 weeks even if I know the owner. Congrats on the new baby, what other birds do you have? I love the Conures.
