I cook my soup mix and I add chickpeas and normal green peas then I also add frozen veges too and red and brown lentils.....they love it. But I make sure it has been cooked for a few hours. I cook mine in my slow cooker and add the lentils when I turn it off and just let them cook in the heat as they become mushy if overcooked but everything else has cooked for a couple first.

Do you have to cook your soup mix? I just soak mine in hot water for 12 - 24 hours and all the birds love it but if I should be cooking it I will start to do that

I only cook it as I read somewhere that one of the bean types needs to be cooked.....and I can't remember which one it is and so just to be sure.......I cook it, but it is still nice a crunchy and not mushy (most times anyway) and they love it.

I think AV when the soup mix is soaked it still has a bitter taste. Once cooked that bitterness goes. That's from personal experience when i make pea soup they are revolting if not cooked through.
