hi all, Thursday afternoon i found a young magpie dangerously close to the road the other day. poor thing was very wet and shivering. i couldnt see any nest it may've came from and there were no other magpies around. so i put it in my little hot box in the car ( a cupboard i built in the car with no insulation from engine bay and gets nice and warm) when i picked him up he didn't care, when i got him out of the cupboard in the car he was a lot more lively and dry. i made a rough holding cage out of a very big cardboard box and some avairy wire. most of yesterday he refused food, and wouldn't eat on his own, untill late afternoon noon he finally took fod from me, i was sooo happy. hes quite happy now walking around my back room and always talking to me. i think i now have a friend. i haven't introduced him to my bourkes yet, but i won't be putting them in the same cage. does anyone know if you need a license in south australia to keep a magpie as a pet???

You will require a Rescue Permit for him.
What diet are you feeding him on?

It requires whole bodies for the right Ca:P ration, it will need mealworms and insects aswell as a good quality kangaroo mince with insectivore mix and eggs mixed in. They are not cheap to keep.

That is so sad, btye.Have you thought of being a wildlife carer? from Robert and Precious yes i have, but at the moment im renting so makes a little bit hard, always been the dream. always checking dead kangaroo's/possums on the side of the road for joeys in the pouch. one day i will. there seems to be a lack of wildlife carers down here .
