Hi everyone - great to find this site. Kindred spirits - not everyone understands a passionate, bird freak
I live here in Adelaide with my human and feathered family - plus a dog and a frog.
Introducing
Georgie - Rescued rainbow lory - flies like a stone (has to walk every where) but great fun.
Zorro - Rescued musk lorikeet - Georgies 'significant other' Fiesty little girl.
Babe - Rescued rainbow lory - Can fly but cant seem to get more than 3 feet off the ground. Still quite young and quite shy.
Ma, Pa and Baby canaries
Rocky - Budgie. Found by my daughter sitting on a rock.(hence the name) Only a baby then, aviary escapee I suspect. Mimics all the other birds except in miniature.
Charlie - Lutino Indian ringneck - Very recently given to me. At least 3rd hand. Cant quite work her out yet. Just getting to know each other.
Chico - Daughters love bird
Dabble - Daughters 'duckling' How I ended up with this in the yard I'm still not sure?
9 zebra finches and 1 chestnut finch.
Mags - Pet magpie - my first rescue - now 22 years old and as handsome as ever.
Melville and Piglet - Cockatiels
Eeeeek - seems an awful lot when you write it all down
Up until 4 weeks ago I had a 24 year old sulphur crest. He had Feather and Beak Disease. I know I should feel proud that I kept him happy and healthy (as much as I could) for so long, but I miss him terribly. There is a very empty corner in our lounge room now.
With Berts passing I now have the opportunity to consider another large, intelligent companion parrot. I never considered another bird before, it wouldn't have been fair to Bert and I couldn't risk exposing another bird to PBFD
After extensive research I've whittled it down to (irrespective of cost, availability and size of bird) to African Grey, Sulphur Crest, Eclectus or macaw. Bert was very cuddly and I like that in a bird.
I know now is the ideal time of year to go 'shopping' as the babies are beginning to appear, but I don't want to make a hasty decision. This bird will be with me for a long time.
Sorry have gone on far too long, will get involved in specific forums soon. Having had a look at the list I think I can join all but one of them!
