I have a female budgie who is driving me crazy. For the past few months she has been laying eggs, sitting on them and then they disappear. She has a partner. I had another budgie sitting on eggs which were due to hatch any day. The other budgie hunted her out of the box and has been sitting on them for a couple of days. Last night when I checked them after work she was now in the box next door and the eggs were abandoned. The other female won't go back in now.
I put the eggs (there are a whole bunch of them) under some tiels sitting on their own eggs and am keeping my fingers crossed.
I feel like wringing her neck LOL.

Laraine I know how you feel, I have had some Budgies do that. Sometimes they believe that the eggs should hatch quicker then they do and get bored sometimes the male chases them off the eggs to breed and sometimes they are just plain old fashion egg eaters. If the eggs have disapeared and no signs of them then I would be checking if something is getting into the avairy, check for any small holes a mouse could fit through they might be raiding them at night. Also if you have the space maybe pull her and the partner into a seperate cage.

I have been thinking about putting them into the big budgie aviary with most of the others, there aren't any breeding boxes in there as I'm not breeding them until the new year. Last year she had 2 normal clutches.

Hi Laraine, I have had the same problem as you are having with your bird many times I tried everything to no avail and finally the only thing that fixed the problem was to get rid of the offending hen out of your aviary and replace her with another hen, we have a special little cage inside for birds like that and we have had up to seven problem birds in it where they live out their life in comfort.

Well she's sitting on 2 eggs again.......I'll see how she goes this time. The other female has been smooching her male so hopefully things will go ok this time.

Well she has hatched 2 babies so hopefully she will behave herself and they will grow up. My tiels are on their last chance as well. So far I have 1 live baby an 7 dead ones. Not impressed. I'd rather not breed them at all than have dead babies.

I'd rather not breed them at all than have dead babies. I'm with you on that one Laraine. I'd sooner not have them. At the moment, we seem to be having a problem with one pair of our finches, they had four babies and some other pair of finches decided that they didn't want them in that nest and pulled the four babies out and they were dead on the floor. It is so sad to see.

I have 4 pairs that I have had for a long time and used to be fantastic breeders but seem to get bored with the process now. Can anyone tell me how long are tiels viable for breeing? Unfortunately I don't have a spare cage to put them in without breeding boxes, but I don't think I will be breeing with them again. I really get cranky when I see poor little dead babies.

The 3 baby budgies are now feathering up very nicely, I think they are all blues.
