Stormy has been with me for nearly a year now and he's one of the tames birds I've ever seen in my life! Recently however he has become a bit naughty. It started of with him being more explorative. Usually he had his playground and I put it in whichever room I was. He had a couple of shelves he liked to sit on and of course our shoulders but that was it. He just didn't go anywhere else.
A few weeks ago he started to raom around the house - he has never done that before but didn't think too much of it. I checked for bird security and ended up closing all doors so he can't do himself any harm. He also reacted a bit 'strange' in his cage making funny movements and some strange noises. I thought it was cute. But he did start to get demanding. He nipped when he wanted something and that could be some food or drinks (he bit me in my ear really badly when I didn't let him drink my wine) or when he wanted to be on your shoulder or something like that. Each time he did the naughty thing I took him back to his cage in solitude.
Stormy has a large cage outside and a smaller cage inside. Each afternoon I transfer him from outside to inside. And in the morning vice a versa. Sunday morning I took him out of his bed cage and hold him (so he doesn't fly off) to carry him to his outside cage. This has never ever been an issue. However on Sunday he decided to bite me right into a very sore blister on my hand and as the pain was so strong, I let go of him.
He first flew onto the roof of my entertainment area and I tried to lure him with some sunflower seeds which he loves but he just nipped at me and then flew into the bottlebrush tree. i totally panicked. I yelled for my sister who was still asleep. He was sitting in the tree having breaksfast and not a care in the world. My sister came down and I told her to watch Stormy while I raced to the shed to get a saw. I started sawing the tree down (with a little curved saw to cut down palms). After a while, Stormy didn't like being up there anymore but I had the feeling he wasn't quite sure how to get down (so it seemed). Anyway after nearly 2 hours, the tree fell and Stormy flew right at me so I grabbed him and didn't let go of him.
He bit me hard (I was bleeding) but I could put him safely into his cage. My poor boy!!!Now I wheel the big cage in and transfer him. Stormy was nippy again this morning and disn't want to step up. Not sure what's wrong with him, could he be looking for a mate???
