I had eight baby love Birds almost ready to fledge, in the heat yesterday I lost one the nest box was very hot inside and the humidity here in Sydney was very high, the rest of the babies seem fine although three of them were out of the box and down on the floor where it was cool

At the moment I have 4 pair of Pied Peachface that are breeding very well, I have some very nice young at the moment from two clutches as soon as the latest fledge I will be selling them, 17 in all, and starting again, I have a couple of spare cock birds at the moment so I need to pair them up with a couple of new hens. Eight babies - excellent work! Shame about the one you lost, the heat just has been relentless. Here's hoping you don't lose anymore.
I have only one pair of peachies left now, and they have three babies which are almost ready to fledge. Mick gave me the ultimatum, peachies or canaries. So sadly I am parting with all my peachies and going to get a few more canaries.

Do you breed your peachies in a communal aviary John?> Yes Laraine I do then when the babies fledge I relocate them to another Aviary, at the moment I have eight from the first clutch and I will be transferring the new lot of babies in about a weeks time, I will then take the breeding boxes out and give them a good clean out before letting them breed again. More babies John, you are doing well.
I'm down to my last 5 peachies. The last three babies have fledged, and Mum and Dad are going to be sold off with them. I have slowly sold them all off in the last few weeks, as I am going to have canaries for a change. I have had peachies for years and years, and I've never owned canaries - so anyone with experience I would love to know more. I've bought three already, and they are just delightful.
Good luck with the babes, I hope you have loads of success with them. Can't wait to hear the news!

Well meandem, I agree with you. I keep canaries and they are just the most delightful little birds. I have had a good breeding season, considering the heat. I've lost a few tiny ones unfortunately but we have had quite a few days of 40+ heat, and the poor little things just can't hack it. It is officially our driest ever Summer.
I started this season with just 6 adult birds and I now have 16, with 4 eggs still unhatched (as at Tuesday 9th). That is from two pair. One hen has produced 6 healthy bubs and is incubating the 4 eggs, while the second hen has produced 4 lovely bubs.
They have a strict breeding season which goes from approx. September to January and sometimes a little further if you don't stop them. Once they are completed breeding, they go into their annual moult.
Anyway, you are welcome to email me and ask anything you like and I will endeavour to reply. Cheers, Shauna ;D

Thanks Shauna, I do appreciate your kind offer of help. I'm sure when I purchase some more, I will be racking your brain for some info. I have only got the three at the moment and they are young, still don't even know what they are........except the fact that they are canaries. One thing is for sure, they are the messiest birds I own!
PS> It's great to see you back on here.
