Bought a bag of Nutriblend Pellets. The birds seem to love them. They were a bit unsure of the bright colors at first but at least they will eat them all. I only got the small size & even the SC Too thinks they are alright. The Eclectus are also eating them. Reasonable price as well if a member of PSOA. If there are any crumbs left in the bowl i just tip them on the fruit & veg. Don't seem to be as much wastage with them either.

Robyn if they are brightly coloured does that mean they have been "coloured"

Yes Tracey they are coloured yellow, pink, blue & green, smell fruity. Am not sure but think they may have used food colouring. Was told they were made with eckies in mind. But there isn't anything on the package to state that. I did ask the guy at the parrot society if they were OK for eckies he said he used them.
I mainly bought them to try over Christmas because i had a few nests with babies & was strapped for time. Lucky for me the birds do like them.

I have been trying them with my birds at home recently and while they have been eating them, it isn't their first choice, with the Roudybush pellets going first.
I think they are basically the standard Vetafarm pellets with some flavouring and food colouring added.
cheers,
Mike

I've got some for AJ, and she LOVES them! Wasn't sure at first - but that is such a galah thing. Hate change, and anything different. But now they vanish in no time.
Vet is really happy with AJ's condition, so I must be doing alright! LOL

ok here goes..... I bought an 8kg bag as the amazons are weaned on them. The breeder I got them from uses them as just a complete diet with fruit and veg. He has just about every amazon species in australia, macaws, greys and even two pairs of queen of bavaria conures. He does not feed seed at all. Only nutiblend pellets. www.vetafarm.com.au/products/NUTRIBLEND-LARGE-PELLETS-1.6Kg.html I was looking at the vetafarm site comparing them to other pellets and it seems there is a pellet that is made for eccies and fruit eaters called paradies pellets www.vetafarm.com.au/products/PARADISE-PELLETS-10Kg.htmlI fed the Nutriblend large pellets to the eckies, and they loved them. They ate them before even touching the fruit and veg.....Still not convinced, just thought i would let you know Shaun

I am still not convinced either Shaun. I have read over & over that pellets are not the be all or end all of parrot nutrition. I just read Roberts link on feeding captive parrots & that makes a lot of sense to me. Although i do feel some people go over board with the cooked meals for their birds.
At the moment i have closed off all my breeding birds nest boxes so i have to really cut down what i feed as well as the amount they get each day. When there is abundant food in the wild the birds breed & when times are lean they don't breed so we are having little experiments at our place to see if the birds are less noisy & how much they eat each day. I must say the eckies have really cut down on their intake. So have the suns.
Shaun i offer my zons seed not that they eat much of it but its there if they want it, they do enjoy the pellets but i would have to say they love their fruit & veg over anything else. So i just use the pellets as a sort of treat more than anything. Robyn.

I bought the Vetafarm pellets, just for a treat not replacing seed, but haven't tried them yet, must remember this weekend. The vet that I spoke to about my tiel baby problems said to feed them pellets only and never seed. I guess this raises the whole debate again.
