Ok i have two yellow sided green cheeks, they are really nice and friendly and I love them to death however they will not breed for me I have now had them over a year they have been stable in their current avairy for over 6 months they have a Z shaped box, seed, fruit and mash diet they are DNAed male and female and yet nothing. they guy I got them off said they had breed for him before and showed me one of their Bubs (then again this could have been a fib) now I was talking to this guy the other day and he said "does the avairy face east?" argh i don't know? well the sun rises in the east so if i am looking at the front of their cage it means the sun rises on their left over the top and sets on the right. Well this breeder says that is my issue that Green Cheek avairys need to face east otherwise you will not get any bubs??? Really? I thought it was because the male is in love with me and ignores the females when i am around and spends the whole time asking me for kisses So any suggestions on how to get these two more comfortable to breed let me know. Ok and this is not the best video but this is their avairy set up (also the quakers are now gone so they are buy themselves, thinking I might get a pair of normals but not sure) Ignore me talking also they have a shade sail over the avairy when it is hot and also the avairy now have a sprinkler system (this was taken a while ago when i had grass before I got chickens and they ate it all!)

I've bred green cheeks twice - one pair was in a north facing aviary, and the other in an inside breeding cabinet (at our old shop).
I would think a Z box is a bit fancy - try also giving them a standard cockatiel box, which is what I used, so they have a choice.
Also the tameness of the male may be an issue - try to give him an absolute minimum attention so he pays more attention to his mate
cheers
Mike

I have the same problem with my Green Cheeks. They have been DNA tested and have been together for 2 summers now and are in with a pair of Kaks but the aviary faces south. All my aviaries face south. They sleep in the breeding box but won't lay an egg in it. If you find the solution please let me know.

After owning & breeding Green Cheeks for years. My first pair cost me $1000 a pair. In all the years of owning them i have never had trouble with mine not breeding. I think first & foremost you have to have a compatible pair. Should they lay infertile eggs all the time there is a possibility the male is a dud. If the hen does not lay at all there could be a problem with her or the pair are incompatible. None of my cages face the right way, they are all under shade of some sort. I think what does help with conures to kick them off breeding is for them to hear chicks in another nest being fed. My GC have just a normal nest box. I feed them what ever all the other birds have.
Laraine, maybe if you can put the GCC in their own aviary you may have some success. All my birds have their own space. With my Green Cheeks, the little buggers breed all year round so i have taken their nest box out for a couple of months, at least until the summer has passed.
If my birds didn't breed for a few years i would try & pair them up with different partners to see if that would help. As far as the male being human imprinted, i suppose it does happen but i have never had that problem even though most of my breeders have actually been pets at some stage & all have been hand reared.
Cheers.

Thanks Robyn, as a matter of fact a budgie in the cage next door is in the box and hopefully will lay so maybe there will be the tweet of babies soon. The kaks haven't bred either. Maybe I should start giving them sex eucation classesl Lol

Maybe I should start giving them sex eucation classesl Lol Both Kakarikis and Green-cheeks are unlikely to breed unless they have their own flight. And if by chance the Green-cheeks did try to breed then your Kakis are at risk of serious injury by territorial conures. Most species of parrots have far greater breeding success if they are in their own flight rather than sharing with other birds. cheers, Mike
