Hi all, About 15 minutes ago my budgerigar bob (the one in my avatar) was flying, lost control and crashed onto the floor! At first he seemed ok but when he walks it looks like his crippled. When he crashed his left leg did do the splits. Besides his leg, he looks ok. I think he might be hurt!! Please help me.

You say he seems ok apart from not walking properly?? Does he seem stressed?? Is he eating and drinking normally? Can he perch?? If he seems normal with just a sore leg, then I would keep him in a small cage and take out all toys and ladders. Just maybe one perch. Just so he can be kept quiet and not jump around too much. If he seems stressed and in pain or not eating or drinking properly, then a vet visit will be needed.....if he seems ok apart from not walking properly then possibly just keeping him quiet for a few days might be all he needs.

If you can it might be a good idea to check his legs too....maybe in the morning. It is now time for them to start roosting and he probably will just sleep. But I would try to check his legs in the morning and see if they look ok and if he can move them....usually when you put them on their back they struggle so you will be able to see if he can move his legs or not.

Is his leg limp like dead limp when you move it or does he still have use of it. j

She is kept in a cage with her boyfriend (a male budgie called Louie). He is still moving around and eating and kissing Louie, but he seems quiter then usual. When Bob (Bob is a hen, sorry in the first post I accedently called her a boy) walks his left leg looks kind of bent. I might take louie out of her cage until shes better.

She probably is quieter because she has hurt herself. If it is moving and she is using it then it quite possibly is ok. But you said it is "kind of bent" ....... maybe a pic if that is possible??? If you move her from her mate .... try to keep them close as she might stress more if she is not with him. I possibly would leave her with him if she still is able to use her leg. I would however take out everything except one perch and their feed bowls and maybe half cover the cage with a towel or something.

The best thing you can do is leave her alone, just keep a good eye on her, make sure she is kept quiet and don't let her get into too much activity.
IF the leg is broken, and from what you have said it doesn't sound like it, it will mend itself and she will rest it herself, watch how she sitson the perch and if she is only perching on one leg she is just resting the injured leg, if however she is walking on the leg she is fine just a bit sore.

Hi all, I have some good news Bob seems normal again, although he still limps. He walks along the perch ok, its only when hes on the ground that he limps. What I ment by his foot is kind of bent, is that when he walks on the ground, it bends to the side. Bob seems not to be in pain and is chirping with his mate Louie.
