Hopefully a pic of the little silvereye we got yesterday. He's suffered some sort of trauma as he can't stand. We wanted to give him a chance rather than let him be euthanased straight away. He's very lively this morning and managed to get out of his bed and fly a very short distance. He balanced on his legs once, more luck than judgement I think. He is eating from a syringe very well and doesn't appear in pain so we will give him the weekend to recover incase his symptoms are due to swelling which may subside. He's a little beauty. Fingers crossed

He weighs 10grms I think he's a juvenile but hard to tell really. Apparantly they have the complete white ring around their eye about 2 weeks after they've fledged. He is still having problems standing. He has flown a couple of times today but I am beginning to think he has some spinal damage.

good news so far. The vet felt that if we give him another week or even 2 he may come good. He is beginning to flex and grip with right foot occasionally and very occasionally with the left. She felt it can take us humans a couple of weeks to recover from bruising and swelling so we will give him every chance we can. I encourage him to try and hang on to a perch, he already excercises his wings when I take him out of his bed. He's eating and pooping so we wait and see

very good. Sounds like my little Mikey I am raising at the moment. I didn't know what was wrong with him....but 3 weeks later I am now positive his parents had stopped feeding him and he literally was almost dead. He couldn't grip or walk but now..........he flaps and tries to get out of his box and walks to me and calls me......such a darling.
Will you keep this bird or let it go??

Aren't these vunerable little birds a joy to care for? We plan to release him provided he regains all his functions and fend for himself, but if not he will be another addition to our collection of disabled birds.

update on silvereye, he's doing really well, grips with both feet now and can get where he wants to go albeit a bit haphazard and spends most of his time hiding under the foliage in his cage. He can fly when he concentrates. He still falls on his nose sometimes and has a struggle to get upright so we can't leave him with any food or water as he could easily drown. He is 100% better than last week so we hope for continual improvement.
