All my babies are doing well some have fledged and most are well on the way to doing so, every now and again a special bird comes along in a clutch and you just know it's going to be a keeper, I have just that bird in the last clutch of budgies, they are all starting to colour up at the moment and one in particular is a stand out, it is a blue and grey bird although the grey may just be down feathers but I am tipping it will be a very nice bird.
A few years ago I did have a budgie that was the mainstay of my breeding stock, I named him green and gold majic he was a champion bird both big and so very colourful, he was my pride and joy, his breeding lines ran through my whole collection of budgies numbering over 100 breeding pair at the time, this one looks like being the start of a new dynasty, I haven't named it yet I don't even know the sex, just hoping it is going to be as nice as I think it will be, when it grows abit more I will post some photo's just to let you all see what a great bird it is.
Boy I didn't realize how much I enjoyed my budgies but I am having a real ball watching them develop I am remembering different things about their breeding the ups and the downs of the species, don't know why I ever stopped breeding them really.

They were the first birds I ever owned as well, and I'm sure I will always love to keep them. I only just finished typing in another thread about how much I adore budgies. Would love to see some piccies John.

My budgies are having a breeding spurt at the moment. Three have fledged with 2 hens sitting on eggs and 2 babies hatched. I can always rely on my budgies to come up with the goods even if nothing else does.

I know what you mean about the little budgies John. I love the little tackers too.
Actually I never intended to have budgies in my flock as I am a canary breeder and they were my first birds. But when I got my Bourke's parakeets last year, the guy also had a pair of tiels, a Java sparrow and a grey budgie from a package deal and didn't really want any of them. So I bought the tiels and the sad little grey budgie and he gave me the Java sparrow for free. So then of course I had to get partners and my new boy budgie came along. Then I saw a beautiful little one for sale and rushed over to buy it. He is a beautiful pastel yellow and teal YF2 pied opaline spangle that I named Sapphire. My little flock was growing. Then I bought two in nest to hand raise and fell more in love with the little birds. I also bought Sapphire's mum, and a budgie for her partner that is close in colouring to Sapphire's dad, coz the mongrel breeder would not sell me his dad.
Recently, I bought a small patio aviary with 5 beautiful coloured budgies for $20. The people just couldn't be bothered looking after them anymore, so I took them on board as a semi rescue. They are all so pretty. There are 4 hens and one cock, so I will need to split them up and pair them off with other birds.
Went to a bird place in Perth that I don't frequent, and saw a beautiful mainly white bird with the black wing spangles. I thought he was stunning so if he is still there on my pension day this week, I am going to get him as a partner for the pretty dark turquoise hen from the five.
So yes, they are very alluring.
Cheers, Shauna ;D

Same here, I started with budgies many years ago. Mine are breeding at the moment, but the trouble is when I get a nice colour I want to keep it so am ending up with more and more.
