AJ learnt a new word today! Peek-a-boo! It was so sweet! I love when she learns a new word! She doesn't talk much, so when she does say something, it's a bit more special (well, to me anyway!) And I have found the perfect toy for her! I pegged an old top with heaps of buttons on it onto the side of her cage. And she LOVES it! She is completely obsessed with buttons! She's quite the expert at undoing them, too. She's working on doing them back up, but I think she gets more joy from undoing. LOL I have a pic of her with her top, I just have to get it off my phone - so I'll post it when I find the cable! LOL Carls

Carls, you so sound proud of AJ, and well you should be. What a clever bird!
I love to play peek-a-boo with Chuckles. I put my hand over her head and cover her eyes and say "Where's Chuckles" to which she replies "BOO!" it is just so cute. I share your enthusiasm and enjoyment!

Carly you will enjoy her talking more & more especially when she learns more words. There is nothing more sweet than the company of a parrot or two chatting in the background.
I guess i take my lot for granted most of the time. I have 12 of my flock that all talk. Gypsy & Precious the pair of Eclectus are the best they say heaps of sentences then the runner up is the SC Too. Some days they just really crack me up. Like i always know when someone is coming in the front gate the cocky keeps calling HELLO.

Hey Ellen, how is your chilli plant going? Unbelievably the plant is still alive! I'm actually growing something. ;D Of course it may have helped that I had people looking after my much treasured plant (and the house and birds) whilst I was away. Maybe they helped it adjust. I have it out the front of the house - where it gets the morning sun. Seems to be going OK, well it is still green anyway and I am getting the fruit off it still. I have only been watering it when it starts to droop a little. I just hope I can keep it going!

Off topic Ellen, but thought of it when you were talking about plants, did you manage to get the Aloe Vera you were wanting and how is the bird with the sore neck?

Off topic Ellen, but thought of it when you were talking about plants, did you manage to get the Aloe Vera you were wanting and how is the bird with the sore neck? Not to take over this thread, but because you asked- Yes I did get it Laraine, I bought it at the Toowoomba Markets whilst I was visiting my daughter. It is growing, but very slowly. I haven't used it on "55" (that is what he is affectionately known as now), I used the Debrisol that Robyn so kindly told me to get. It seemed to work. I've stopped using everything now, he is just getting lots of lovin. And funny you asked about him, freaky really, 'cause I was taking photos of him earlier today to document his improvement. Still no oil painting, sure, but to me he is worth a million. I adore him. After all he has been through, and all that he has put me through, I can't help but love him. Oh and AJ PEEK A BOO

Love the bear! I'm glad your chilli is still alive and kicking! LOL I'm sure it will be fine Wow, the little man IS looking a heap better! WOW! I think it's amazing that you've been able to nurse him through such trauma. *applause* Oh, and AJ said 'ta ta' to my mum and dad as they were leaving my place today! And she's saying peek-a-boo when she wants attention! LMAO

Thank you for your kind comments on 55. He really is a trooper, he has been through quite an ordeal, but thankfully pulled through.
And I am very proud that I have kept a plant alive longer than 5 days............that is really something for me!
And AJ, you are doing the birdworld proud, you will soon be able to have a full blown conversation together!

Hard to believe it myself really. It has been very time consuming, but worth every minute. He now lives with Jasper inside the house. I just don't have the heart to leave him outside now that we are coming into the cold time. My house is even more noisey now! Bye bye AJ, TA - TA

I love these pics you are putting up Ellen! AJ has decided that she LOVES to talk now - probably because she gets so much attention when she does! LOL It will be interesting to see what she picks up next! Clever girl that she is.

Bo was not a good talker (my female galah) but when Bo was a young bird ....... the neighbour across the raod had a young male and "man could that bird talk" ........ he sounded just like a human too.......he was awesome.

AJ's words aren't ultra clear - except 'scratch'. EVERYONE can hear that! I know what she's saying, and some other people can tell what she's saying. It's like when you have a toddler just learning to talk - as a mum, you hear the words clear as day, but anyone else struggles! LOL

Thats very true, you can understand your own bird while others may struggle just like having kids. Bob only says a few things which we understand like, what ya got bob, ok bob, thats when he gets scared he says OK BOB as he runs up to his perch. He use to say give us a kiss but has not done that for a few years now.
The funny thing is when a flock of Galahs fly over he says nothing or sometimes he speaks human instead of Galah LOL.

AJ goes really quiet when the wild galahs fly over, too! It is SO funny! Some of them landed in a big tree we have next to the house, and I had AJ outside with me. I talked to the wild ones, and a couple of them looked down at me with interest - well, probably looked at AJ, wondering what on earth she was doing with a human! But she just froze! LOL Poor baby doesn't know she's a bird!
To wake me up in the morning, she now says 'peek-a-boo' LOL
