I buy bags of mixed nuts in their shells for our parrots. I can help the eckies get into everything that has too hard a shell with the nut crackers but not the macadamias - any ideas how you shell these??? Karen

Hammer or hubbies vice Karen, makes a bit of a mess though. I just buy the raw ones already shelled for my eclectus. We are unable to buy nuts in their shells except at Xmas. Robyn.

LOL
A vice works like a charm. Or I could lend you my dog, Zeus - he can crack them open no worries! Only prob is, he eats them! I'm amazed that he hasn't gotten sick - they are supposed to be toxic to dogs. Daft animal, he is!

I was given a macadamia nut cracker for Mother's Day last year. It is super and works really well, but my only problem is when I crack them, I eat them myself and the birds don't get as many as they should

Are roasted nuts OK for birds, or do they need to be raw?
