Hi, I am new to bird care and have a galah arriving this afternoon. He is 10 months old. Any thoughts on the best diet for the galah, preferred brands of seed and any thoughts on vitamin supplementation. Any advise will be appreciated.

I have never owned a Galah, but assume it is much the same as other Oz parrots. I use Avi Grain seed, you might be able to use large parrot mix. Give it plenty of fruit and vegies. I give my parrots corn, celery, apples, peas, beans, carrots, thistles, spinach and a lot more. Don't forget to worm every few months. Hope this helps.

Thanks Laraine. Unfortunately Ollie is very fussy. Is not eating any fresh stuff other than cooked pumpkin. Will persevere as I am sure it is important for him to get lots of fresh food. What worming treatment do you recommend?

I use Ornithon on the fruit and veg mix and also calcium syrup. The best way to deal with worms is to take a faecal sample to the vet and get them to do a float to see if the bird needs treating and with what. It is not expensive. The float can also pick up other things that may need treating.
