Hi all,
I have two scaly breasted lorikeets, which are about 14mths old. we bought them together, and they have always shared the same cage, meals, beds etc.
They have been best of friends always rolling around and playing together, but just of recent one of them has become quiet aggressive to wards the other to the point where the one being attacked is not wanting to be near the other.
They have always slept in the same little hanging tent bed, shared the same meal bowls/fruit, toys and cage. but now the one being attacked is not wanting to be near the other, it gets all jittery and flap's continually when it comes near.
I have resulted in separating them whilst I am at work as I am afraid that it may end up stressing the bird out and worse possibly killing it. We are unsure of the sex of both birds but are thinking if this may provide answers that we may need to look at it.
I am hoping it is a phase but was hoping for some advice? Any ideas would be helpful.
Thank you. Nicole

I am sorry but I can't help you but hopefully someone with experience with scalies can help. I would be just guessing though ...... it possibly is hormonal and maybe it is sexual behaviour?? But I am only guessing.

Yeah that was my thought that it could be a sexual aggression, or my other thought was that if they are both the same sex it might be a dominance/Territorial thing... but hoping someone will be able to shed some light... thanks

I had the exact same thing happen with my two scalies.
A male and female, brother and sister.
Both got on fine together as youngsters but the female became dominate as they matured so they where separated.
The breeder had mentioned this may happen so we where prepared for it, knowing they where related.

I have a breeding pair of scalies that are the best of friends, but do get a bit aggressive when they are breeding. They were fighting yesterday, the male is wanting to mate and she isn't ready too. Today she was letting him mate her and they are friends again...

hi guys and girls, yeah could be three things, hormonal, aggression of being both sexes, territory, how big is the cage they are in ,if small that would be the problem, best to put then in sepperate cages as they can tear their selves apart very fast, keep us informed as how you go nicole, best regards chris
