Hi all, have just purchased my first Rainbow Lorikeet last Saturday, she is a lovely bird with a great personality, she is 6 months old and her previous owner have taught her a few words/sayings and she also does some other sounds. How can I stop her from biting us and drawing blood, is there something I can do? Thanking you all for any reply....

You may find the article at www.mooloolabapets.com.au/html/lorikeets.html helpful - although since you have only had your bird a few days it might not be for any of those reasons discussed there. However they may become more applicable with time. It may be just the uncertainty of having moved to a new home and the stress that the move has caused. Let the bird settle in, for a few days, talk plenty to it, give treats by hand, but don't try to do much handling - hopefully it will settle in quickly. Having said that Rainbows can be a nippy bird, and have a VERY sharp beak. However their abundant personality - hyperactive personality some will say - will make up for any nippy behaviour. cheers, Mike
