I noticed this bird today. I wanted to ask if anyone has seen a Lori with this sort of growth on its beak before. The bird had a partner with the same condition. I have wild Lori's come and feed on my balcony daily. This is the first time I have seen a bird with a beak like this. I thought it might be some residue from a meal they had elsewhere but after looking closely and watching them, I'm worried it might be some type of beak disease. They were cleaning their beaks and had a drink but the stuff didn't seem to come off. I don't want to end up having the other healthy birds who visit me get sick with this condition if it is something that is transmittable between the birds. I haven't been able to find any pictures or references for this type of condition on the net so came here to ask for help in figuring out if this is a serious condition or just something stuck on their beaks from eating sticky food. I have disinfected the bowl they were eating from and the water bowl to. I clean the feeding bowls I use daily. If anyone has any knowledge about this I would appreciate any advice you can give! I'm 99% certain it is dirt. My guess it and it's mate have eaten something sticky and dirt has then built up on the beak. When I had the pet shop we would get similar birds brought into us at times with owners concerned about a growth. It always was able to be removed, using just my finger nail. Often it would be just on the bottom beak, or at the join of the top and bottom beak. This one has managed a pretty good job of getting messed up. If you can catch the bird and towel it then you should be able to "peel" it away.
cheers,
Mike

Thanks for your quick reply Mike! They were just back for a visit a minute ago and I had another close look. A big chunk of it seemed to be breaking off and I noticed they both had a bit of it on the bottom beak that is more thinly distributed like dried muddy water. I'm guessing they have eaten something sticky then got it dirty like you suggested. They seem able to eat without issue so will hold off trying to capture and clean them. Thanks again for your help
