There is a new international internet lost and found parrot site being established in UK. I would like to let everyone know about it as I really believe we could all help each other, but don't know if it is OK to post about it here....? It is free, international, will advise you once you register if a bird has been lost or found in your area. They will advise you by phone or email. The bloke organising it has said most of the english speaking nations are joining up in droves but Oz is not. So I am going to post the link and hope it's OK. If not I apologise. parrotalert.com/video/register.html

Hi, I'm Neil, the person developing www.parrotalert.com, as mentioned above. www.parrotalert.com is a global lost, stolen and found (bird) parrot reporting and alerting site. The UK reference appears to have confused it's purpose. It's not designed for the UK, it's designed to work for all countries. Currently it is accepting registrations and will be fully released in the next couple of weeks. Australia is enabled as a country to be used, and will provide the same facilities for Australia as it will for the US, UK etc. It's localised and it will be converted to several languages after it's release. As mentioned, i've had an explosion of sign ups in the UK and US, but i guess it's not known about here. Phase 2 will hook into forums to post lost and found alerts relating to that country. If the forum owner here wishes to subscribe to have automatic alerts posted here: aussiebirds.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=LostContact me and i'll put you on the list.

Ok......after letting John (the bossman) know of this link he has said it looks ok. As someone who has recently lost two of her birds.......not yet safely found........I think it looks like a good idea too. So what you are saying....is that if someone loses a bird they can register on Parrotalert and it shows up automatically in other forums? ?

I think it sounds like a good idea, it needs to be advertised so everyone knows about it, maybe on Petlink? If its free it can't hurt. Neil can you advertise it on Petlink, its also free.

People (members) signup, give their e-mail address and an approx location and that's it. If someone like yourself loses a bird, they sign-up, report the lost, including details, photo and location. Then all members residing with n miles will be alerted, all forums participating for a given country will receive an auto post to their lost and found section containing all the details and social network sites will be auto updated, like twitter and facebook. Also, there will be a map search facility, for members to search from a given location.

Just to let you all know that www.parrotalert.com is officially live. It is the most advanced graphical bird reporting and alerting site on the internet. If you lose or find a feathered friend, pop by and report it. Also by becoming a registered member, you can become part of the community of eyes and ears and help reunite our feathered companions. There is a map based graphical search facility for searching locations for reported lost, stolen and found. It's safety in numbers!

Since i officially launched it last week, I've had 38 birds reported found or lost, in Australia, UK and US. I've had hundreds more join the community too by registering their interest for alerts. In the next couple of months, I'm going to roll out the automatic publishing of parrot alerts on forum Lost and Found sections for those that wish to participate. The more people the alerts reach, the more chance of recovery and being reunited. This project is all about the birds and people that suffer a loss go through hell, so, that's why i looked at developing something total unique and different to what is currently out there. I have had 1 vet is Australia in the Brisbane area alone submit 3, they can't find the owners. There are people desperate to find their birds and there are people that are looking for their owners, now with the geographically mapping technology i've implemented into www.parrotalert.com, you can actually search towns and cities within countries and get a visual position. parrotalert.com is far the finished article, I've got lots more to add, improve and implement. Hopefully the people unfortunate to suffer a loss, can count on your support by registering for alerts. Neil. PS. If you live within the Brisbane area, there are 3 birds reported found currently. Go to search location, enter brisbane and search last 12 months for 100 miles and you'll see them. There are more reported lost in other parts of your country.
