In preparation for my Alexandrine (which I will be getting in about 2 months) my boyfriend and I built this play gym. I wanted to build my own, as it would be cheaper, and I could make the dimensions just as I wanted them. So here it is. It's not finished, but this is the basic structure. I'll of course be adding toys and things to it as I go. So what do you think guys?

lol your boyfriend looks pretty proud of himself lol........I would also add some toys......like maybe a swing could fit from the branch and hang down and maybe have some safe hooks so other toys can be hung from it and interchanged around. I made a playstand ........ quite a big one actually out of a large terracotta pot......and some large leopard tree branches. Originally I filled it with rocks to keep the branches steady but it was so darn heavy it took me ages to clean because I had to take all the rocks out before I could move the thing outside to clean. Then I decided to try expandafoam in the bottom and sprayed it all in the bottom around the branches.......it is now light and the branches are firm in place. I just have to repaint the foam every now and then (i used to work in a paint store and have heaps of water based paints). Just be very careful with alex's though because they will chew anything and everything. I liken them to the termite of the bird world lol. Lucky for me though I have hung a boing above the playstand and my birds tend to spend a lot of time on the boing.....some time on the branches and never on the terracotta pot. I have hung hooks and I screwed in a bowl also.
So anyway your playstand is great.......I would just add some toys and just be aware that you will need to replace the wood........often lol ;D

Thanks Mad Aussie and Vankarhi. Yeah I'm aware the wood will need to be replaced, it cost me nothing virtually so that's all good, and we made sure that we'd be able to remove the perches fairly easily when they're finished with. Got a great supply of eucalyptus branches at hand as I live near a forest and there's a few great dog parks that have heaps of trees and stuff. I'll definitely be adding toys! I was thinking of a wood and rope ladder hanging from the biggest perch, and I'm thinking of adding a third perch between the two, and that'll have toys hanging from it too. Maybe a fourth perch too. Then there'll be stuff on the base as well; foot toys, and other things to climb on and chew. This is just the very basic structure, so I'll be sure to update you guys with more pictures as the building process continues!

I just noticed that ball thing on the end.......it wont last long once he becomes an avid chewer lol.....a chewed toy is a loved toy.......always remember that lol ;D and be prepared to replace a lot of chewable toys with an alexandrine once he is a little older.

Thanks guys, I can't wait to see him playing on it!
Yeah, I realise I'm gonna have to replace lots of toys. The good thing is I think I can make my own quite cheaply, so that's okay. But also, my breeder sells toys at wholesale price, and there's a pet shop near my place that has really good prices too =]
