Female parrot finally layed after being with male for 4 years, not enough bedding at bottom of the box & eggs cracked . Removed eggs & cleaned box with fresh bedding. Will she lay again?? She has been back in the box nesting since & no eggs as yet?? Any advise would be much appreciated....

when did she lay...what month?? Mine have double clutched this time because I removed their one baby when he was 2 weeks old.
Their breeding season finishes around Nov/Dec
Mine also don't like to have bedding in their nest box's.......I put it in and the kick it out.....all over the aviary floor lol so I have given up on putting it in there.

She layed last Tuesday 12/10/10. She seems really good with the bedding, she is constantly on it!! When we left her without, the eggs x2 broke.

well I put bedding in and they just kick it out and lay their eggs on almost bare timber.....and have done this for 3 years now. The second hen does the same now......so I just figured they didn't like bedding in their nest box's

When i was breeding ringnecks & alexs i used to cut all the new growth on my weeping t trees (about a foot long) & jammed the nest box full almost to the entrance hole. I did this just before the breeding started. The hen would spend hours in the box chewing all the twigs & leaves & turning it all over until she was happy with it. It was amazing how she would chew it almost to a powder. I never had trouble with them turfing it all out. My sun conures do that though, i just wait until the eggs are laid & put some bedding in then & they don't seem to kick it out then.

I have tried that too Robyn ...... putting bedding in when the eggs are laid......for some reason mine just don't like the bedding in their box's. I might try the branch though around April next year and just see what happens with that.......might stop them from destroying the nestbox doors etc
