Hi, i have a 4yr old pair of Blue Throated Conures, the hen will lay 1 egg then leave the box, the hen and cock will return to the box to roost at night but then im not sure what happens next. First i noticed broken egg shell in their box and now i just find broken broken empty eggs dicarded from their nest box. the eggs seem to sit their for a day or 2 before being discarded, in not quiet sure whats happening who who is destroying the eggs, any ideas would be great.. Do you have access to an incubator? You could remove the eggs for incubation as they are laid and replace them with plastic ones. If the hen sits on the plastic eggs, you can put the chicks back into the box under the hen and she should raise them. If she kills the chicks, I would remove the eggs and rear them when they hatch.
Unfortunatley you have to try these type of things or they will keep happening. The eggs look to have been eaten. You could also try vitamin supplements on their vege mix as they may be lacking in something

Do you have any other hens sitting on eggs that you could borrow to incubate them? I have been doing that lately as my hens are laying eggs then going off them.

I recently had a problem with a Princess Parrot breaking her eggs. This went on for months; eventually I took the pair to an avian vet. He suggested first changing the shape of the nest box and the nesting material. If that didn’t work make some artificial eggs with modeling clay. I bought the type of clay you cook in the oven from an arts shop so the eggs were hard and they could not eat them. Changing the nest box did not help my hen but when I put the dummy eggs in, she started leaving her own eggs alone. I also started adding Calcium to her soaked seed and fruit mix. She happily sat and now has five babies. Good Luck I know its frustrating.

I've been having a lot of trouble too with eggs getting broken and hens laying eggs, sitting for about 2 weeks, and then going off them, even the tiels who are usually reliable. It's frustrating but I don't know what to do about it. Also getting a lot of clear eggs.

If you have birds laying and not sitting I'd suggest it could be a couple of things. 1) they may not feel secure in the box. This could be because of too much human or other interfence, too much light in the box or disturbance from surrounding birds. Have a look or think about these things and see if any could be your isse. 2) underlying health issues. Sick birds may still breed but it is so stressful on the birds. If their health is not 100% your sucess rates will drop dramatically. 3) I'm of the opinion that with so many birds being handraised, especially from egg, birds aren't being taught how to be parents. It's just my opinion though.

update to blue throated conures breaking eggs, i modified the bottom of the breeding box as u can see in the picture but that didnt really work as the just destroyed it lol, i then brought some dummy eggs from lentra and for every egg that was laied and destroyed i replaced the broken egg with the dummy. eventually she had 3 dummy eggs before she stopped breaking her own. it got to a stage where she had 3 dummy eggs and 9 of her own when i removed the dummy eggs earlier this month. i checked up on her yesterday and to my surprise i now have 2 babies and one hatching as i speak. thank you to everyone who gave suggestions on what to do will post some more pics to show progress... oh and I agree many birds are not being given the chance to learn to raise babies on their own and so never really know how to raise eggs to hatching and then chicks to fledging
