Hi all , I picked up my pair of Green Cheeks last Tuesday when the girl was caught up she was swollen around the vent so an egg was to be expected in the next few days . Well its now Sunday and the boy has been lining the nest with his feathers , the girl doesnt appear swollen anymore , they slept in the nest box from day 1 and no sign of an egg anywhere and the boy is feeding her. Ive been watching her to be sure the move didnt upset her and she get egg bound but all seems well . Not sure what to expect here if anything , not really worried but will they breed this year or would the move finished that off. Now we have gone back to winter coditions and Im concerned the cold snap may bring on egg binding or is this only the case with other parrots. Thanks for any info. First time conure owner here ( cant you tell lol )

Congrats on your purchase of the conures. They are the cutest little things with heaps of attitude.
I am not sure the male actually lines the nest. With my pair all i do is put untreated wood shavings as the bedding in their nest box. Yes they do sleep in their nest box every night even in the non-breeding season. I notice that both birds spend a lot of time preparing the nest but the female spends the most daylight hours getting things ready.
I know egg binding does happen but have never had a problem with any of my breeding hens. As long as they have heaps of good food & calcium like cuttlefish bone or a calcium bell at all times.
Be patient they will lay when ready. The move should not worry them. But in any case just sit back & wait. With some luck you could have chicks by Christmas.
Lots of luck.
Robyn.

Thanks again Robyn , they certainly are characters .They have all the calcium you mentioned plus they get a salad every day of celery , soaked seed , apple , corn , grapes etc which they tuck into keenly along with peachface seed mix. I guess what was worrying me is the cold weather we keep reverting back to here which I have been told can cause egg binding anyhoo they are active and vocal and eating well so thats all I can do except watch them and enjoy them.
