Is it true that Kakarikis are a short lived bird due to their hyperactivity? They are a short-lived bird, not many get to 10 years, but I'm not sure it is due to their hyperactivity. Rainbow Lorikeets for instance are pretty hyped up and they can live to 20+ years. I am sure there are other factors which affect their lifespan - for instance they can have pretty large nests - up to 10 babies are known in a clutch, and that could be a reason evolution has shortened their life expectancy. cheers, Mike
