Well he/she is 10 days old today and is really powering on. It is such a pleasure to raise one so little ...... although it is almost at an age now that I am familiar with. It was only 2 days old when I did take it from the nest and I have to say it has been a breeze ;D
He is emptying well......I am keeping the formula wet enough but increasing the total volume daily while stretching out the intervals inbetween.
3 years ago when I first started to breed and handraise (I had handraised a couple of birds in the past)........it was such an awesome experience to be able to see the babies and watch them grow like I had never noticed before. This time around I have watched it from an even earlier age and I have noticed things like his toe nails changed colour to grey a few days ago......he was starting to get very faint signs of pins coming through a couple of days ago......he still had his tooth beak ;D it's eyes have been slightly open for a few days now.
He was 24grams about 22 hours after I took him from the nest ....... he now weighs 48grams and is just motering through his feeds now.
Feeding them at such a young age has been awesome for me ;D I love it so far, it has not been as scarey as I thought it would be. ;D

check him out today ;D I put a leg ring on him yesterday but it came off......so tried again today.....will try again tomorrow if it comes off again although it was a bit tighter to get on this morning......they grow so fast. I can remember my first lot the older one was around 16 days and I almost couldn't get the leg ring on ........ she might have even been a bit younger than that.......but it was hard going. I also dna'd him yesterday and sent it off.....so I should know soon what "he" is ;D This morning he weighed in at 66 grams and I daresay tomorrow he will be heavier due to him being such a little piggy lol ;D (remember Ellen......I am not attached to this little fella ;D ...... but I am pretty proud of myself.....even though i know a lot of you have raised ones so young......I was always scared of attempting one this young.......now I say "BRING it ON" lol ......... but for those who have not handraised before and are thinking it sounds easy........I am not a novice, just never with newly hatched chick before) so here are a couple of proud pics ;D check out his tooth beak still at 12 days old and you can see his empty crop.......then his FULL crop and he would have kept eating too if I didn't stop him lol I think this one you can see his empty crop This one you can see his full crop This one he is chewing on the grains of formula
