I have never owned one but would love to one day soon ;D
When I was about 25 my parents told me about one they met on their travels and they said it was just adorable and just like a baby........this one apparently was still young and just loved to be cuddled and was very affectionate. What they are like when they are adults?? I don't know.

I've been told they're not as needy as the white ones. Beautiful birds, one day I will have a male!!

I used to own a Red Tail Black his name is Harley. I had him for 4 or 5 years. The only reason he was rehomed was because i felt he was missing out on female company & my hubby wouldn't let me get a GF for him. His constant crying drove me nuts not to mention being paranoid about the neighbors complaining, so i ended up asking my friend at the Zoo to take him. These days he is a lot happier with all his cage mates & huge aviary.
He was a gentle giant, never got aggressive. Very cuddly. They are so different to any of the white toos or the galah. I think when i owned Harley i wasn't ready for such a big bird & i was so busy with hand rearing. But after having the opportunity to hand rear a few RTB chicks i better understand them & am ready to maybe own another little guy. Like the little one i am rearing at the moment. So darn cute.

Thought i'd log in to comment on this thread seeing i've had a little experience owning a RTB as a companion parrot ...
Personally i don't feel its right owning these lovely big parrots as companion parrots to live their lives inside ...
Also i'm with Robyn the spring calling for a mate is LOUD and can drive you up the wall !!!
I didn't find my guy very cuddly at all but he never bit me .. .but craved for attention alot ... and while out of his cage he just had to be with us .. would never play by himself on a playstand or anything ...
and last of all they LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE to chew !!!! so keeping toys up to them to keep them busy is a big job in itself ...
all the best to whoever wants to keep on as a companion parrot inside .. but please consider their size before doing so ..

Well Hello there Lisa ;D
I for one will not get one until we move........and yes the house went unconditional today ;D and we are hopefully getting 2 acres a bit further out of town ;D
If I do still decide to get one.......and yes I for one realise it is a huge responsibility.......but I want my husband to build me a big flight area of our brand new pergola (when the house is built) so I can put any pet birds in there during the day but they can come in and be with us at night and in the mornings and still be able to fly around.....but have more freedom during the day.......that is my dream and hope one day.......even if I don't get a RTB2.......I still want a big flight area for Erik to be able to fly around in and to amuse himself.
He is already preparing himself for new aviaries and a flight aviary lol
