So Ive been doing the normal Q and A thing you do when you want to buy new breeds ...my idea is to put a pair of kaks in a 3 metre x 3 metre aviary with 1 pair quarrion , 1 pair scarlets and 1 pair bourkes and maybe if there's room another pair of quarrion so 5 pair in all . So far its been all negative , here are the things Ive been told so far please tell me if these things are right or wrong .
They bite other birds legs of ... They will drop dead in the heat of summer ... Nest boxes go on the ground ... They are too hypo to put with docile birds ...
Thanx

I don't know where you have been getting your information from. I have 1 pair Kaks, 2 male Cockatiels, 1 pair Plumheads and assorted budgies all in the one cage with no problems at all. Also 2 quails on the floor.
Before that I had the Kaks in with 2 Green Cheek Conures for about 2 years without any problems at all. I don't think you will have any problems with the Scarlets and Bourkes in with them as well. If you were putting Peachfaces or Red Rumps in that would be another story.

Look if you would like to try a pair of Kaks in a mixed aviary give it a go....BUT....have a back up plan should it go pear shape. A lot of what you hear & read are peoples own experiences. Take it all on board but bare in mind what works for one person may not work for someone else. If i were going to try a mixed aviary i would select all the birds i wanted to try out, put them all in the aviary on the same day. Make sure i was home to observe just in case of disaster & have a back up plan. No nestboxes either until all have settled. A few feed stations here & there around the aviary. Also some greenery so the smaller birds can maybe veg out on their own, or hide. LOL.
I have seen Kaks in a mixed aviary at a friends place with cockatiels & ringnecks & they actually bred. Summer heat didn't kill them & i live in FNQ. Nestboxes were hung high. As far as hypo goes i don't think i would class them as that, they always appeared to be reasonably calm to me when ever i saw them.
Don't be put off by others opinions you never know all your birds might just get on fine. One bank of my aviaries i have doors between each cage so have to walk from one cage into the other & sometimes i forget to latch a door & the suns get into the Eclectus or the eclectus get into the majors & not once have i had an injured bird through fighting. I think its because they have been able to see each other for years & don't really care.

Thats why I chose the kaks , from what I researched myself they are ideal for my set up . The info came from pet shop owner and parrot breeder and the sec of a bird club where I was tracking down breeders ( he was complimentary of the kaks but wary of the foot biting ). I understand about the heat and all my birds will lose their nestboxes in about a month anyway as its too hot for any bird to breed here once xmas hits just needed feedback on the other issues though a low nest box isnt a big deal . Oh and the scarlets , bourkes and quarrions are already in the aviary no nest boxes in their at the moment .
