Does anyone have the following book: Lovebirds: Owners Manual and Reference Guide By Dirk van den Abeele (2005-2006). Just wondering if it's worth the money. Yes, we have two copies - the first got wet in a fish tank malfunction so we had to get a second - which means it is a good book - but with the price of around $80.00 especially if you are into the mutations in a big way. And some of the usage of mutation names in the book is European in origin so doesn't always match up with what is generally used in Australia. Although mutations is the primary focus it does have some good stuff on keeping and breeding - as good as any other Lovebird book around. So yes I do recommend it but only for the serious Lovebird breeder interested in mutation breeding. If that doesn't include you I suggest trying to get a look at it beforehand. If there are any big bird sales coming up around your area that the Australian Birdkeeper is attending you should be able to see a copy before buying. I might add that the link in the first post of this thread goes to the Amazon site selling the TFH edition for $150. TFH is always a rip-off book publisher. It is available from Australian Birdkeepr for $79.95 plus postage - birdkeeper.com.au/other-bird-books/lovebirds-owners-manual-and-reference-guide - the original European edition, in English! cheers, Mike

Thanks for the info. I did notice the cost of $150 was about double what I seen the book advertised for else where. As I am only breeding masked which don't come in as many mutant varieties as peachface and fischers I suppose it's probably not a necessatiy for me. But I do like to have my own books to reference to when I see a particular colour and want to know more about it. I've heard only good things about the book, so I might place it on my xmas wish list which makes it a bit easier for my wife.

What to have a xmas wish list lol ....... I have asked my hubby to make up a xmas wish list because he is a gadget man and buys everything through out the year and then there is nothing left to buy.......but this year I have got him a gift card from Super Cheap Auto's (that is one of his fav shops).....and just got to think of something else. Oh I got him a book about the Kokoda trail too......he used to live near there when he lived in PNG.

I'm the same. If there is something I want bad enough I don't wait around in the hope that my wife get's it too me for xmas. But I know how hard that makes it for her. And becuase she likes to make an effort I'd rather give her a list of exactly what I want and she can choose from that. What she doesn;t get from there I'll buy early in the new year. I might throw some black headed caiques on there and see how I go.
