After the last few months of trying to get my Neophemas to like each other, yesterday I bought a pair of Turks that have bred. None of mine (turks, scarlets, elegants and bourkes) are interested in their "partners".
The people I bought them from told me that the hen was sitting on 3 eggs and one morning the eggs were gone as well as 3 2 week old Plumhead chicks. They were devastated as they had been waiting for their Plumheads to breed for ages. They think a snake or mouse must have got into the aviary. Apparently the same thing happened to them last year as well. I'd put my money on a human stealing them.

Well congratulations on the purchase.......... ;D
But you think a human would take them??? The chicks/eggs that is??? Is it really that bad??? That is really scarey.

Congrats on your new turqs. I miss mine, they are a delightful little bird. And great little breeders.
Sad to think someone may have stole babies - or eggs. Some people just have no life!

I just can't see a snake taking them, they live in a villa complex with houses all around, plus the aviary only has small holes up near the roof, I didn't know snakes could sliver up colourbond. Plus a similar incident happened to them last year.
Hopefully my pair will breed if not this year but next. Ellen, have you still got your Scarlets?

Only have my white front scarlets left Laraine, and they are getting very close to being sold. I have been asked by many people for them, but I am trying to hold on to them for just a bit longer.

Have they ever bred for you? Why are you selling them?

Yes bred, and breeding again at the moment. Mosty selling them because of space issues, and we are finding it increasingly difficult to find people that are willing to come and birdy sit for us when we go away.

What a pity you can't "post" them down to me. My pair didn't breed either, but I bought another male from the same couple so after he gets out of quarantine I'll put him with them, maybe the female might fancy him.
I know what you mean about birdy minding, I have 2 very good neighbours who keep a look out for my birds, cats and bunny, luckily I don't go away very much.

That's half of our problem, we go away alot. We need to get away from here. As much as we love the place, when you live where you work - you need to get away just to have a break. Otherwise you are just non-stop working all the time.

They are putting in a new spillway here at the dam. And initially they told us that we will have to move when they blast, as the blasting is very close to our house. NOW..........they are telling us that we just have to evacuate every time they blast. Won't that be interesting. I can only take what I can fit into a car everytime they blast. That is mostly the reason I am getting rid of the parrots, I don't want them to live in fear. Also Mick wants to concentrate more on his finches, and also the birdy sitter problem as well.
