Has anyone come across a bird that is terrified of seed? The little baby must be 6-7 weeks old now. We try to offer him seed but he freaks out. We are at our wits end with this bird. He just refuses to eat seed. He did try some a little while ago when his sister was still alive but now we show and offer him seed he screams and runs away. Do we have a bird that will demand to be hand fed forever? GRRRR he is driving us all nuts!

Chin up. He'll come around. It may just take a lot longer. I'd leave the seed in the cage and probably reduce the amount of hand feeds to a maximum of two. By now I would start to give the mix in a bowl in the cage rather then offering it by spoon. Maybe teach him that he'll find it in the bowl forst. Offer fresh greens each morning and afternoon in small quantities.

I have convinced mother to only feed 3 times a day - although when I got home yesterday he demanded to be let out again and have another feed. We have left a bowl of seed in there for the past 2-3 weeks but no husk so he isn't sneeking any. I will tell mother to reduce feeding to twice a day thanks. Looks like his sale will fall through as we were supposed to deliver him Monday. ahh well.

Snowy refused to eat seed for months.......I just kept giving her the cooked bean mix and the fruit and vege mix I give the other birds and kept seed in her cage......then when she finally decided to eat seed she became a seed junkie.....so i had to resort to other measures........and now she eats her fresh stuff too again.

6 or 7 weeks isn't really that old yet. Lovebirds stay in the nest for 6 weeks, maybe longer. Then they have 2 weeks to be fully independant. Keep the two feeds but try and get the bird to eat from the bowl rather then spoon. Good Luck

FINALLY little monster has started eating seed! phew! Now just have to convince him the food should be eaten out of the bowl and not off the floor.
