Hi everyone
I have a Galah that is around 5 years old that I am trying to integarate into an aviary environment. The aviary is large and measures 6.1m long x 2.1m wide x 2.4m high.
I have slowly been getting him used to the aviary over the last month to the point where he is comfortable in there by himself. His wings aren't clipped and he has just started getting back into flying.
One week ago is was given the opportunity to have a tame, rescued Galah from a local vet. He would be around 1 year old, very friendly to me and a good flyer.
My bird is completely afraid of the new one. I thought they would be apprehensive of each other at first, but now after a week of spending time together my bird still is not coping with the introduction of the new one. The new one chases my bird around the avairy a fair bit and is a much better flyer, leaving my bird shivvering in the corner of the aviary on the floor. Its not like the new bird is agressive towards him, I just think he wants to get close.
I have now seperated them and bought my bird back inside.
Can anyone offer any advice to try and get my bird accepting and not afraid of the new one?
Thanks Barry

You could try them in smaller cages next to each other for a while so they can chat and get to know each other without the fear of touching each other at first . jjjj

yes one week is not very long. I would do as John above suggested or even put one of them in a cage within the aviary so they can get used to each other but still remain safe. Sometimes it can take weeks or months before they even tolerate each other.
