Cockatiels and Budgies?

Hi all

I'm sure this has been covered before but I can't find it tonight.

How do cockatiels and budgies get on? They would be in separate cages but hopefully house free when tamed.

I am hoping to wait til May for the local sales meet (thanks Frank) but for a few nights now son has been waking crying over the lose of our previous tiel and present tiel is not very friendly ..... yet - I am still perservering ...... and he saw a budgie today that he thought he wanted (daughter wanted a pair of eccies). I can see we are also probably shaping up as candidates for the Birds Anon club. ;D

But just in case I cave in before May, how compatible are tiels and budgies?

(Already planning to build a wired in verandah down the side of the house for our indoor/outdoor birds - when we win Tattslotto of course.)

Hi Kath, I have cockatiels & budgies in together in my holding avairy & there doesn't seem to be a problem. I have one female tiel that I handreared who insists a male violet budgie preens her. As to wether they get on usually it's the birds who decide that. The most I have ever seen the two species do is a bit of a beak fight every now & again but usually they are pretty compatible. If you have the cage side by side they should get use to each other. Do you plan having a young budgie to train. If you do, try to start off getting the birds out seperately as there could be a bit of jealously from the tiel to start with. Hope this helps Anna

I have found most birds do get on in holding aviaries, as long as there is no nest box. I have turks, plumheads, ringnecks, rosellas, bourkes, cockatiels in holding aviary together with no problems.

G'Day Kath, No problems with Cockatiels and Budgies in together I have found that they will, mix very well together.

i have supervised play with my budgie and tiel..if you see my post there is pics of the two of them..they are both very very dominant birds and they do have a bit of a beak fight every now and then...rest of the time i think you would be fine..as the others have said
