Well it looks like Big Chick has fledged! I busted him this morning climbing out of his nest box! He's been flying around their cage and climbing right up to the top, everytime I put him back in his box he climbs right out again! It's gonna be terror when his brother learns to fly! And Chicken(dad) has been evicted from the cage, he's now in his own one sitting next to the other cage. Mum busted him plucking Big Chick's new crest feathers out! It happened once before but I didn't know who it was, poor thing was just starting to grow again

We've decided on a name for Big Chick: Rocket! Because that's what he does when he flies, he goes off like a rocket! We just need a name for Little Chick now, who's getting more and more stronger everyday, a few days ago he could not perch on my finger, he's just grab my finger and let his body fall off the back of my hand. He's just starting to be able to hold on in a perch in the cage. I've wrapped one of the thinner perches with a co-hesive bandage and that seems to be helping him grip alot better, and it must make it a lot more comfortable too, because Rocket has decided it's his favourite perch. It's interesting the way Speckle has changed now that the chicks are out of the box, we bought her 12 months ago as an aviary bred bird, she was probably 15 weeks old when we got her(so she's probably far to young to breed, but I didn't learn this till after she'd laid her eggs), so she's always been a fairly feral bird, will rip your skin off if you grab her etc. But lately she's been so pre-occupied with the chicks she really doesn't care how close you are. Rocket was just having a few big flies tonight, and if you picked him up Speckle would come and land on you, something that never ever ever happens! And as Rocket would fly, Chicken and Speckle would fly around him, pushing him around as though herding him in the right direction. Amazing. Even Little Chick had a few small flies. My little boys are growing up

My Cockatiel has the same wing colouring as Speckle but is Lutino. Can anyone tell me what she is crossed with?

Sounds like a Lutino Cinnamon Pearl Pied Laraine. Beautiful birds. I used to breed them a few years ago. I actually got my breeding stock from Mike Anderson I don't know if anyone remembers him. He had some amazing birds.

He had some amazing birds. Yes I didn't know him personally but went to some talks he gave - that's going back a bit. I don't know if he is still around, haven't heard of him for a few years. He did have some lovely birds, and got into som eof the mutations very early and made a pile out of them - when White-faces were $1000 plus a bird. cheers, Mike
