Green Cheek Conure requires a home that has an Aviary that suites an active bird. The bird in question adopted his present caretaker and despite efforts to find the owner I have ended up with him/her and realize that a bigger /flight aviary is required. Must have been a pet/hand reared, is incredibly engaging and opinionated, loves a cuddle and has a mean bite when the mood strikes. I have no experience with birds but have become very attached to this Parrot. It needs a large area and someone who knows what they are doing,

Good onya for giving him a new home. I'm so very jealous as we in WA aren't allowed to keep green cheeks and I would dearly love one.

I don't understand why you can't have those birds in WA. It's really odd....is there a specific reason??? twr....Charlie just has some biting issues and gets very hmmm....puffed up and starts getting very nasty when you try and go near his cage etc...... When out and flying around, he is fine - he is just being a territorial little bugger at the moment, but I will break him....(not literally of course!!) He just looks so aggro at times, and seems to almost hiss? but time will tell..... He can see me interact with all my other babies, so he might get inqusitive enough to want to find out what all the fun is about......? Any hints anyone on how to approach this??? I'm just starting off with nicely talking to him, and giving him his treats and not threatening him in anyway.....(I hope he see's it that way! lol!!) I'm also just letting him fly around and land where he wants to start with, but I am thinking of taping his wings for now, to see if I can interact with him a little more...... Any help would be appreciated..... Thanks guys....

The main reason given for not allowing certain species is that if they escape they could start colonizing habitats that our native species live in It's ridiculous that they would allow some species in and not others. I mean african greys are never gonna escape in enough numbers in the same area to be a problem yet they allow in indian ringnecks which are in such numbers that they could easily take over native habitats.

Agree, that make no sense. AQIS also has some silly rules. There are some great feather conditioning products by Avitech & they won't let them in cause the powder is derived from natural organics. As if I'm going to sprinkle the stuff around so as to cause environmental issues.

They are particularly strict in WA. Because the populated areas so so isolated from the rest of the country there are diseases, insects etc that we don't have but the rest of Oz does. You can keep pythons in WA but you can't import them into the state because of a bacteria or something that they carry. Ours don't have this bacteria. I can understand the reasoning behind some of their rules but some are just mind boggling.

When we came back from Darwin recently and our quarantine dogs at Perth aiport always seem to be at there and they detected some one with honey which is prohibited to be brought into WA from other states. Apparently our bees have the purest pollen in the world and is sold for heaps of money but I don't get how commercial honey is different. But back on track, good job for adopting Charlie Ann-Maree, I hope he settles soon. Leanne

Honey can contain a bacteria that, for memory, affects other species of bees. Our honey doesn't have that bacteria. The same goes for fruit etc.

Am very sad about having Charlie adopted out but it is the right thing for the bird. Charlie has gone to the right place, no doubt about that. Flossy is mad about birds and Charlie will respond eventually it's just that he/she is a very opinionated individual who doesn't take to change very well. Am amazed at how difficult this has been because Charlie adopted me, not the other way around. I know he is in good hands and will adopt his new home as easily as he did mine.

Not sure of the details but Autralia was at risk of losing its Honey Industry a few years ago because of a disease that spread from bee to bee ...Id say that scare has made things the way they are in regards to moving honey /honey products state to state .
