Ok no photos yet cos my computer at home is stuffed but OMG Matches is so cool! Picked Matches up Sat morning and was watching all the cars drive past lol. Went to Pauline's and Matches was being very good...I met vincent he is gorgeous!! so cute. Now the sexing is confusing...Used to definately look like a boy but is starting to look more girly so we are confused. Doesnt matter anyway. Got Matches home and put the food and everything in Matches new cage, was straight into the food which was good and then was exploring and playing with the toys YAY he/she likes it!! Then came out on the playstand in my room, took a while to get used to that though. Ended up falling asleep on my shoulder that night so off to bed he (im just going to say he cos it's easier) went. Sunday we put the shower perch to use..was a bit slippery but he loved the shower! Was fluffing up and trying to drink it haha. Then I put him in his travel cage and dried off in the sun! Sunday was when he discovered my glitter lava lamp lol!!! Follows it everywhere. Naughty bird wants to bite everything that isnt his. Flying a bit but isnt flying off...being very good in that way lol and hasnt bitten any of us...YET. Last night he snuck up and got his head into my long soup before i could stop him...didnt have much phew! Then was eyeing off my softdrink..NO WAY!. Getting spoilt by my dad, he cooked him some vegies especially for Matches. When it was time for bed Matches was making some noise!! Lucky it only lasted half an hour. This morning was waken by a calling alexandrine at 6:20 so out came Matches for a bit over an hour before i went to work..again my brother and dad came in to say goodbye...I DONT EVEN GET THAT MUCH ATTENTION!!! Lol. When i left this morning he was squarking...i didnt want to go to work but went..felt so bad for leaving him...ill try to get off work early today to see my green baby! To be continued.... lol

When i was looking at the cage i thought it was so small but now he's in it it looks huge lol. Even the travel cage that i thought probably wouldnt even hold him is big lol. I hid some peanuts in things so maybe that will keep him busy for a while today. I am going to buy a happy hut as the cat hammock is useless lol, gets tangled in it and i think i will buy a radio for it.

Courtney Matches is so cool and she was so good on Saturday, the sexing didn't worry her at all I don't think she felt the pick of the needle. Matches does look like a girl now so can't wait for the DNA results.

Are there big differences in temperment between males and females? Cos Matches is a really good bird ATM and loves being around people...wondering if the sex could affect the personality?

No there is no differents. It does depend on the parents and the handrearer.

no Courtney as far as i know the ekkie females are the "bullterrier of the birdworld" lol ;D
My shrekie is a lovely girl and she just loves to be with me. I just hope she loves to be with her mate Alex when he arrives in about 2 weeks time. She does seem to stress a bit with new things.............I guess when my son first had her he really didn't socialise her .......... because Skye doesn't seem phased by anything new.
I don't think by the sounds of it you are going to have any problems with Matchesa and I think she or he will make you a truely wonderful pet. I have both a male and female alex and either way they are just lovely.

YAY!! The only think i dont like about the females are that they can get eggbound which scares me or prolapse...i know the second one isnt that common but it is a bit scary. I just hope if Matches is female she doesnt start laying..unless a male was there with her and was giving me babies lol..but nah, not for a long time will i even think about the baby thing. Otherwise i like the males and the females the same.

Matches looks lovely, and I would be pretty sure is a girl from the photos. Egg binding doesn't seem to be a problem with Alexes - I'e never come across a case yet.. Similarly egg-laying of a single bird also seems to be rare - unlike cockatiels. My daughter has 8 Alexes as pets, is was a relief when she finally moved out of home, the decibel level decreased dramatically She has 3 hens (two are lutinos and one normal) and the only one to lay eggs is the breeding one. The two not in a breeding pair have never laid and are about 6 years old now. The hens are all typical Alexes, with no real difference in behaviour from the cocks. Their beaks might be smaller but they can chew just as effectively The hen that breeds is now about 12 years old, and even when she has eggs and chicks in her nestbox in her cage my daughter can reach in and handle her and the babies. If I reached in I would lose a finger though. Funnily it is the cock that becomes protective against my daughter when babies are there, but with me he is OK. Alexes are great birds, one of the best, and you should have her for 30 or 40 years - but watch that chewing. cheers, Mike

Thanks for the info. Phew, cos we had a lutino female tiel in with my male for a few years and she used to lay eggs a fair bit but he hated her and there was no nesting material so they were never fertilized. She ended up dying pretty young and we are pretty sure it is from being eggbound. Just didnt want that to happen with Matches although Matches wont be in with any bird. I didnt bother sexing at the start cos i chose the alex cos i thought there was no big difference between the male and female apart from the ring. So all that being said, happy to welcome a little girl!!..or boy...either way Matches is a great bird so i wouldnt trade it either way.
Haha this morning i was trying to put my makeup on and Matches didnt want to stay on the birdstand so flew over to me....do you know how hard it is trying to put mascara on while an alex is trying to grab the mascara brush at the same time!! Lol.

Lol yeah thinking might be a girl. I bought her a radio last night to listen to during the day. This morning she flew off while i was changing the paper in her cage and dad said "come have a look at what she's looking at", went over and on the other side of the glass door was a baby scrub turkey haha, they were just staring at each other soo cute!
