Thank you so much for putting the pics up for me. They are about are now about 35.-4 weeks old and I have been feeding for about 5 days I think....they are very happy (1 even took itself back to their cage this morning....who said canaries could be brainless?) but I don't see much growth in them though I suppose their body size is about right and just the short tail feathers are throwing me off LOL. The one with the "cap" is quite the adventurer...soon as he has a bit of foood is off exploring the table and checking out the floor etc etc, always first for a feed too. Not sure on names yet but perhaps after an explorer thats name can be for either sex. Might start a new thread....name the canary babies!!!!

Ok then I will start thinking of names in anticipation of the new thread. Hey my canaries have laid eggs too. I am a bit surprised as I only bought Lady a few weeks ago for my male "Songa" and noticed she was making a nest and had looked in the nest a few times (even yesterday) and thought i saw nothing but this morning there were 2 blue eggs...............I must be blind.

14 days..........wow that soon..........well that is very exciting then. I think there might be 3 eggs actually but not game to have a really good look. I bought Songa a very big cage...........really big for a canary and I put Lady in there with him and bought the nest and feathers etc immediately just in case

yep only 14days from first egg laid normally.I leave the eggs in the nest (some breeders pull them and place dummies in till the clutch is laid)...expect upto about 5 eggs but some hens will lay more.Mine did 4 than 5 than 5 again, she was a dud mum and only raised 1 chick out of 14 eggs so she has gone to the ain aviary to mature a bit till next yr and I'll see what happens. This current 2 are from 5 eggs but only 4 hatched and than the disaster and I lost 2.
They grow really quickly and should be flapping around by 3-4 weeks old.
I'd start giving Lady some egg & biscuit now daily and than definately every day once babes hatched.I also up the greens for my guys when they have babies.

Yeah I've read in a few books now that breeding pairs should have an arrowroot everyday. I've tried and most of mine think its great.

I just give them it dry, though I've heard soak in milk too, they also really get into the fresh vegies when feeding the young. I give vegies every morning, sprouts if I've had enough time to sprout them and multi grain bread. They just love multi grain bread when feeding chicks but will hardly touch it otherwise. I guess they find it easy to feed the young with.

Mine love spinach I grow at home here...they are not permitted store bought spinach ever due to pesticides etc....can't wait to get the full vege patch up and running for ALL the birds! Will make me a very happy daddy indeed. PS I finally worked out posting pics on here so look out cause I will be at it heaps now

Introducing
Wills and Friar
Now almost weaned and a strong and healthy 5 weeks old.
Thankfully they are now feeding themselves and showing very little respect for the hand raising that I did.....ahhh well they'll be here forever after that!! ;D

are they tame since you did raise them???

they are reas tame but losing it pretty quickly...but thats ok as I would like to breed them eventually and I think going into the "big aviary" in a few weeks to learn how to be canaries will be good for them.Though I do hope they will always be happy to come closer to me than their distant cousins.
