Natalie aka Motherhen said she is a pastel silver hen cause the cinnamon lutino have red eyes where my angel has black eyes.Slognoth you got me hooked on cockatiels ever since i saw your pippin. I have put a natural branche in there for her i have left the perch that the cage came with in cause she feels more secure on that. But she has the natural there if she chooses to use it.

Hi Tara the hen Looks like a Cinnamon-Lutino Tiel to me!The eyes might look dark to the naked eye but if you look very closely at dark with a torch you will probably notice some redness. A Pastel Silver wil have a dark beak, feet and toe nails. Frank

No Problems Guys their can be a bit of confusion between Lutino Cinnamons and Platinums but the dark feet and toenails is a good way of picking up Pastel- Silvers and WestCoast-Silvers. Of course all those theories go out the door when Pied is introduced. cheers

Yes it does get hard....I forgot that they had dark feet and all..I had to go and have another look at mine..lol .... What happens if I breed a west to a pastel Frank...will I get all greys??? Natalie

Yes Natalie because they are 2 different recessive mutations then a pairing of West Coast Silver x Pastel Silver will produce all grey normals that are split to both mutations. If you then breed one of the Offspring Normal/WCS/Pastel-Sil to another Normal/WCS/Pastel-Sil the results would be Westcoast-Pastel-Silver which is a bird that looks very similar to a Pastel-Silver so as you can see the confusing genetics of this bird is not really worth the trouble with the breeding results that are achieved cheers Frank

Ok guys for what it's worth I thought she was a platinum! Can someone explain why it isn't platinum as it looks like my platinum hen. That would also account for the darker looking eyes. Jo-Anne

Ok Jo-Anne if this particular hen had visual pied I too would be confused especially hence the photo is slightly out of focus making hard to distinguish the tones! but i look closely at the flights and I see more of brownish tones rather than smokey-silvery- grey and the ino factor obviously lying suffused underneath. Also the crest feathers in Platinum hen normally are a pronounced yellow raher than the dull yellow as cinnamons carry! The difference in eye color is obvious at birth but very similar after fledging!

Ok Frank, Your explanation sounds great but sorry...I am still not convinced. That almost lavendar colour tonings on the back keep me stuck on the platinum I'm afraid. I thought the cinnamon lutino had more yellow on the flights and basically more yellow everywhere. I am not saying you are wrong but I am not convinced yet that I am wrong either. Just stubborn I guess!!LOL Jo-Anne

Hi Tara, Is there any way you can find out what colour this birds parents are? I am very interested to find out exactly what mutation this bird is as I have trouble with cinnamon lutinos ......I mean I still believe it's a platinum but if I'm wrong then I want to know exactly what it is that differentiates the 2. Thanks Jo-Anne
