Sam
Years ago we had a pet shop, and of course in owning a shop like this you get the chance to have funny things happen…..
Well one after noon two kids came in with a little bundle, the said that they found a baby bird, it must have fallen out of it’s nest they said……well gee I thought to my self, after looking at the poor little thing….it’s so darn small I think it was more like taken from it’s nest not fallen….anyway being the sucker for helpless wee things I took it in…..not knowing what it was and knowing that It might die I just tried my best…..the poor little tike was not well at all….the next day I noticed that the chick had been fly blown, as in feeding him this horrible maggot crawled out of it’s crop, I quickly did it in and then checked the baby all over and continued to feed it…..as the hours went on this little fellow started to call for me when he got hungry, I was feeding him egg biscuit now and he became very demanding he would eat anything. I carried him around with me every where in his shoebox. Yes you could say that he had the strongest will to live and he grew up absolutely devoted to me. Sam lived in our home, we had a large sunroom and his cage was in a corner with the door always open. He would be up early sitting in the kitchen waiting for breakfast……he would sit at the end of the table and wait for hand outs, we would go off to work for the day, but he had free range of the house….not that he moved far from the sunroom and kitchen. When we came home and walked up the stairs from the garage we would call him and Sam would fly thru the house to land on your shoulder to greet you. He would also fly into the bathroom and perch on the shower rail to catch the spray and have a bath too or he would splash in the left over water in the recess. He would hang around you like a bad smell at tea time because he would get handouts again while dinner was being made and once again sit at the end of the table getting cooked veggies, toast in fact just about an thing….he was a ? after all. And you know…he was the most brilliant singer, he would sing when the sun was coming up and he would sing when the sun was going down, and when the sun had all gone he would be found in his cage a sleep and the next day would start all over again. Yep I know he was just a ?? but he was the friendliest little chap.
Sam lived with us for about four years till the day he met his end, we came home as usual but there was no Sam to greet us………….we found that he had drowned in the toilet, he always bathed in the shower recess so we think that he had been mischievous that day, and yes the lid was always shut, until this day……….yep I cried for days, what a horrible way poor Sam had to die. After all these years I still think of the first baby I hand raised.
When I tell people about Sam, all they say is you had a pet what ......till I show them the photos.
Do you want to see his photo!!!!
