All 4 of the kookas and the 2 maggies have moved to my house to make room at my fella, John's, place for our latest rescue - a wedge tailed eagle. I'll let you know more when we've assessed him better.

NO WAY!!!!!! How awesome would that be! I love Wedgies, just like my Dad. They have two up here at the local wildlife park that can't be released, broken wings. Makes you sad but they are fat and lazy babies too

He will go to a raptor centre if he can't be released.

He is only a babe, his colour is so light. I love them so much, such beautiful faces. I'm so very jealous! Must do a wildlife carer course!

It is very time consuming having a houseful of sick, injured and orphaned critters to take care of but it's sooo worth it.

We have taken the wedgie to a raptor rehabilitation centre where he has much more room to move now that he had recovered some. I seems he may have been hit by a car and badly bruised, we also found a wound on one wing that the vet 'missed' but there doesn't appear to be any broken bones. I bet the vet didn't even look at him properly. We can go and see him whenever we want and when he is released we can be there to see him back to freedom.

That would be so cool to watch him be released. I actually noticed what looked like a sore on his face on the close up pic which made me think he was an accident victim. At least he is getting the proper help heh and should be back in the wild soon.

What a stunning bird. Whatever happened it did enough damage didn't it, poor fella . I hope he pulls though soon, it would be sad to loose such a magnificant bird.

In Margaret River out on Boodjidup Rd. It costs $10 to get in and there is a walk past enclosures set in natural bush. There is 2 shows a day where Phil or one of the other carers brings out a raptor which you can have sit on your arm. There is also a free flight display where black kites fly in and catch food in mid air, they even fly past and take food from the carers hand. There are heaps of different raptors there including some rarer ones such as the barking owl. There is a link to their site in the links section.

I thought I'd let you know that 'he' was actually a juvenile 'she' and couldn't be released as her wings never recovered properly, we're pretty sure it was serious connective tissue damage and that the tendons and ligaments were too badly torn. The good news is that there is an old male that had lost his mate so Phil, the guy that runs Eagles Heritage, put her in with him. I don't know if they ever mated but if I find out I'll let you know ;D
