Hi all, I have just bought a pair of gang gang cockatoos in the hope of future breeding. I am sure it will be tough to do and also to keep these guys entertained enough to stop feather plucking which is common in this species. Does anybody on here own gangs or have any info on them? I will post up some pics as soon as I can.....along with the others I have promised. I will get there! busy busy. Thanks Shaun

Very exciting Shaun ;D I don't know alot about them sorry but I think you have to get into feeding mice and icky things like that too. Lots of branches and pine cones etc for them to destroy should provide a few hours entainment.

I have bought alot of birds lately. I cant help it. It is an addiction as well as a hobby that keeps me at home with my baby boy and wife when I can instead of fishing for marlin. I used to be big into that, but was keeping me away from my family. Now my wife and I look after the birds together.
I dont mind sharing the price of the birds on here at all Lisa. If it helps people out, I am willing to share. They were $2000 for the pair. I pick them up this week. I have spent alot of money on birds this last few months. I work hard for what I have and keep working to keep it. I work every day of the week most weeks. Be it for pay or to help someone out. I do spend all available time with my family though.
I have read that they will eat mice, bones, mince etc and am looking forward to giving them what they need. I know they will be hard to breed, but find them an interesting species and will give it a go.
Pics will come by the weekend.
Shaun

that sounds like a good price Shaun. ;D and it is good that your wife shares your passion for the birds too.
My husband didn't have any pets before he met me (and no I am not his pet lol ) ..... but he seems to enjoy going to the dog trials and stewarding at the trials and he enjoys building aviaries (even if it did take him forever lol) and the nest boxes etc etc. So I am lucky too I guess.
I hadn't meant to sound like I was prying or anything.........just impressed with your "buyng" spree lately ;D

Not at all Tracey, I didnt take it the wrong way. I have to justify to myself spending all this money to! I did ramble a bit though.

... i must say i had no real interest in owning one ... but if i had looked after one ... i would then probably have to buy one ... but was lucky enough to adopt one from a customer .... he is a pretty cool bird ... besides being a handful *Lisa*

Well you could be spending your money on much unimportant things than birds. I think birds are a great investment, and not neccesarily in the money side of things. The joy and love you get from a bird is priceless! Well done on your new purchases and can't wait for the pics either.

wow you have bought heaps of birds lately (unless I am confusing you with someone else lol) Are you referring to me? ? I don't own any gangs, but I know a lady with some. This lady is the same lady that babysits Chuckles for me (when needed). Her male talks extremely well, and yes they love a lot of chewing items, I haven't taken much notice of the nest when I visit, because I am too busy looking at all her birds, but next time I am up there I will check it out and ask her some questions if you like.

erm, some won't like this little bit of info . . . live finches in their aviary will keep them entertained, until they catch them that is.

LOL yeah, they get bored and can easily turn to plucking. Never nest inspect, you'll lose any chicks as they do not like peekers.

No, but I have spoken to friends who have had them about their care and breeding. For me, I could not give them what they need. People who have them find them a very rewarding bird to keep. If you can, talk to Smiley about them. She was telling me about the time she was a keeper (at Currumbin? can't remember) and there were a breeding pair, had chick but some idiot did something stupid (Nat not on that day) and they lost it. I don't remember all the details but she'll be able to help with first hand experience.
