breeders know the parents of the babies so it makes it easyier for them to sex there tiels without DNA sexing the breeder i got rebal from said he is male. I gave my birds a mist spary today they loved it they got abbsolutely soaking wet. kjjl you can always get the obbsite sex and attach a nest box and say to hubby sorry they must have had babies. That way you can have more birds.

frank can tell if you have a hen or male if you know the parents mutations.I'm trying to find out angels parents mutations and rebals parents mutations so it gives me an idea what his genes are and what angels genes are. It will also give an idea if rebal is a hen or a male.

Knowing the parents genetics can only sometimes help and only with the sex-linked mutations like lutino cinnamon and pearl. Even then it depends on which parent has what gene as to whether the clutch is sexable or not. I know my baby wf lutino is a girl 100% because her mum is not lutino and her dad is split lutino. for her to have been a boy then mum would have to have been lutino as well. Jo-Anne

hello jo going on what i know then the male has to be carring the platinum gean (monty is platinum ) and taking that into concideration then monty will be female i belive that is correct the best people to be sure is frank or Jo-Anne regards bill

Forgive me here but what colour was Monty again? If he/she is lutino or platinum or cinnamon then Monty becomes Montina....it is definately a girl. Jo-Anne

ok this is going to sound confusing but it turns out that the male lutino carnt be split platinum does that sound right Jo-Anne and the females carnt be either so then the male has to be lutino-platinum for monty to be platinum regards bill

Kjjl ok a Platino is proper terminology for a Platinum- Lutino male only so as i mentioned in the previous post if it is definately a Platino then it can only be male. if you post a clear picture or email me i can help if you know the genetics of the parents even better ;D cheers

Hey Kjjl the bird looks more like a normal Platinum rather than a platino which is a lot lighter! ;D and sex is hard to tell although at 5 mths old it should be singing and whistling the cocks song by now.. ;D if its quiet then it is probably a hen Frank

Kjjl only way of telling sex if parentage is known and from what you tell me it seems dad was a Platino(Platinum-Lutino) and if mum wasn't a Platinum visually then your Monty has to be a Platinum hen which is what i expected from first photos ;D cheers Frank
