Hi Bill For a male to be lutino he has to have one lutino gene on each of his 2 chromosomes. As it happens each gene has a particular spot it occupies and isn't found anywhere else. Platinum and lutino occupy that same spot. So for a bird to be lutino that spot is already taken up by lutino on each chromosome so there is nowhere for a platinum gene to be. Likewise if he is a platino he has a platinum on one chromosome and a lutino on the other so he cannot be visually lutino. Does that make any sense? I understand it so that means you should!!LOL Jo-Anne

Is Montya plain platinum or platinum pied? He or she looks just like my Maxy who is platinum pied and Monty appears to have yellow on his legs and patches of pale yellow on his body in the other photos, I'm confused, I'm not much up on teil genetics, also what does a plain platinum look like cause I'm suspecting the male I was sold as a platinum may not be, I wish my camera was working so I could show you a photo, but he has quite dark platinum ( like milky coffee with a bit of cinnamon colour in it) colouring on his body and this forms very distinct fish scale patterns on his wings, he has a yellow head just like a normal male, is this right?

Hey Kim there are different shades of Platinum but the one i hate the most is the one where irresponsible breeders have combined with cinnamon making these birds very hard to distinguish however a normal platinum does carry yellow tones with platinum flight feathers!.. where a Platinum pied will have yellow flight feathers or a combination of both depending how heavy or light the pied is frank

Ok got it, than Maxy is a platinum pied for sure, but I would suspect his parents had cinnamon in them as his siter Lilly isn't the same soft platinum colour but more a dirty golden coffee colour, and as my breeding male came from the same breeder as Max and Lilly's parents I think he may have cinnamon in him also, I had wondered why Maxy had such a beautifull soft colouring and the others had a more harsh dirty colour.

Hey bill Monty dad is a Platinum-Lutino (Platino) thats where your getting confused even though Kjjl says hey was Lutino the breeder probably wasn't aware that the sire was a Lutino-Platinum he has to be he to produce a Platinum hen!If the sire partner was a platinum then Monty could have been either sex cheers ;D Frank
