Some people highly recommend the Western Australian variety Of Galah. When you have more money, you might be interested in aquiring one of these. There is a breeder in Perth that specialises in that Galah. As far as Sydney goes, I have just put the links of breeders in New South Wales up front.Hope of help,Lyrebird. from Robert and Precious

Good luck with your Galah Lewis. Does anybody know of any hand reared Galahs cheaper than $250? If it is cheaper than $250 it is liable to be a wild caught bird that has received minimal socialising and has the risk of disease. Considering the amount of time, food and effort that goes into properly hand rearing a good Galah $250 is very cheap. $400 is a fair price for a good bird. When buying a bird such as a Galah, or any bird for that matter, cheap is often bad. Trying to get a bird that should be with you as a great pet for 30 or 40 years as cheap as possible is false economy. Get the bird that has been properly raised, weaned and socialised even if it does cost a $100 more. It is money well spent and spead over the life of the bird is peanuts. If you can't afford that $100 now, wait until you can - remember how long that bird is going to be with you! cheers, Mike

We sell ours for $300 fully weaned with a starter pack (food, toys, sexing certificate, info booklet, baby booklet etc...) I know one bird shop in perth that sells them for $250 but they are absolutely crap birds (wild caught babies, minimal socialisation except fo a crop needle being shoved down their throat) . I think $300 is a fair price for babies in Perth, for what we include it would be more viable for us to sell them for around $450 as we make no profit off them at all after vet checks, disease screening, handfeeding etc. Not that its about the profit. If you want a good healthy baby shop around - find one thats had health checks or has been raised by someone with experience who can actually do it properly and who will help you with whatever questions you have. Avoid people who are dodgy - most likely they have pulled this baby out of a tree and fed it runny weetbix as handrearing food it happens! Have a look at a few babies from a few breeders if you have to. Honestly if you want a nice healthy bird that wont have health or socialisation issues go to a breeder and dont worry if you have to pay an extra $100 0r $150 you get what you pay for!! of course there are rip off artists out there too. You have to think that this bird may be with you for the next 50 years or more.. $300 - $400 isnt much to pay for an animal that will be with you that long - after all people pay $2000 for a dog that will only live for 10 years or so.

When I looked into getting another baby galah a couple of years back the price I was quoted was $400 handraised by a well known breeder in my area.

I wish i could sell mine for that amount over here Tracey- unfortunatley people over here dont value galahs to be worth much - it is the same story with corellas unfortunatley.
Most birds we tend to rescue are galahs and corellas - too noisy and "boring" to look at as quoted by some people. $300 is about the maximum i can get for my babies. One pet shop offered to buy them off me for $50!! i told them to shove it and that i would never sell to a pet shop any way.
When pet shops are selling galahs for $250 - $300 it makes it hard for me to explain to people why my birds are that expensive - they dont beleive me when i say pet shops generally dont do a full run down on health and plenty of them have no idea what they are doing..

Galahs and Corellas are boring??? OMG they are not boring. They are beautiful and full of personality. I always thought corellas were "ugly" ...... it probably was the long billed ones that made me think that. But a few years ago I saw some baby handraised ones in a pet shop in Bundaberg.........I fell in love.
I took pics this morning of Short billed corellas in one of our trees (posted in the photo section) and you know .......... I told hubby I would love to own one of them as a pet one day. ......... ya just never know. ;D
